My son has always been a side sleeper but now he's sleeping on his stomach. I put him back on his side and or back and then he's back on his belly. Should I just let him sleep on his tummy??

What can I do next?

I had a friend absolutely FLIP OUT because her baby had learned to roll over and she found him sleeping on his tummy. She thought for sure he was going to die of SIDS at that instant. But once they can roll over, they get too choose their sleeping position. The "back to bed" is just for newborns. Both my boys became stomach sleepers, too. After all, isn't the typical baby sleeping position on their tummy with their legs tucked under and their bum in the air? It's so cute! My 23 month old still does that.

just continue to put him to sleep on his back.if he is turning on his tummy by himself he is a strong kid.use a pacifier when putting him to sleep to help prevent sids.

Yep! My son did this at four months and I freaked! My Dr kind of laughed and told me if a baby is strong enough to flip out of the back positioner and onto his tummy then they are fine on their tummy. If your son can lift his head just fine he will be fine. Both of my kids are tummy sleepers and can I say they will sleep better for it. You cannot make your son stay on his back and waking him to flip him back will only cause disrupted sleep. He is old enough and you shouldn't worry.

My kids did the same thing! I freaked out the first couple of times my oldest did it. But I was told as long as they can breath it doesn't matter what position they sleep in. For a couple of weeks I would wake up in the middle of the night to make sure she hadn't smothered herself but after a while I realized that she wasn't going to self smother herself, I just let her keep on sleeping. It was way better than trying to flip her over trying not to wake her up.(unsuccesfully I might add)

Once they figure it out on their own there is nothing you can do to stop it, his head control is also good enough know that I wouldn't really worry about it let him sleep however he is most comfortable.

If he's choosing to sleep on his tummy, there is very little you can do about it. I think it was about that age that our boys started doing the same thing. If he can roll to his tummy, chances are he can also roll back if he needs to. Enjoy your little one!
