Hi-

I am 6 1/2 months pregnant and for the past two weeks have had horrible pain in my hips and behind. It seems to be the worst at night and when I try to sleep. I just toss and turn. Then I wake up in the morning even more exhausted then I was before I went to bed. I've tried yoga, stretching, pillows when sleeping but nothing seems to help. Do any of you have advice on things you've tried that worked? I need help!!! Thanks!

I just had my 3rd and had the same problems. A Chiropractor helped me with that and back pain. Good luck

Been there done that. I told my midwife that I thought my crotch was going to fall out it hurt so bad. They sent me to a D.O. it really didn't work that well, I suggest a chiropracter. They also prescribed me a "maternity belt" and it wasn't one of those cheapo stocking ones you get at motherhood either this is like a back brace and a whole lot of velcro. It takes 2 people sometimes to get this thing on straight. But it takes a lot of the pressure off and is one of the only things that help. Keep in mind too that even though it's not quite warm enough to get in the pool even a bath provides some releif, if only for a little while while I was pregnant I moved one of those family blow up pools into the house and just used buckets of warm tap water to fill it. Hope that helps.

I'm right there with ya! I am due May 9th. This is my 3rd so its not been as bad this time around -I guess things are already streched out- but I have found that when I take more calcium that totally helps! Or take a nice warm bath with Epsome salt before bed, it helps all my aches! We have a reclining couch and when nothing else helps I sleep there!

I had the same problem with my last baby and what I did was told my doctor about it and they set me up with physical therapy. Boy it helped alot. They had me doing water arobics and I really enjoyed that. Good luck and I hope you get to feeling better I know it is rough.

I am of no help but I can sympathize with you... I had the same problem. The worst was when I sat up in bed to go to the bathroom 20 times a night...My hips would pop back into place after being spread out all night. UGH. I cringe just thinking of the pain.

Have you tried a heating pad on low(very low)heat? That body pillow that wraps around your body?

I hope you get some relief soon!

Can't help, but I can sympathize. My first pregnancy was like that. I remember crying at night because my hips hurt so badly. It does go away very soon after the baby comes. I took Tylenol and used lots and lots of pillows to help, there was almost no room in bed for my DH; but nothing really did much. I have been fortunately that this time around it has been much more mild.

I can highly empathize. I have had seven children. My last pregnancy was so painful on my hips and behind that I couldn't even lie on my back to get measured by the midwife(it would make me cry). My midwife recommended a chiropractor (Homer Adams, Adams Chiropractic, Independence Pkwy., Plano). What a HUGE difference! I should have done that 5 babies ago. I also slept with a pillow between my knees to keep my hips in line. I hope you find relief soon!

I can really sympathize since I went through the same problem several months ago with my second pregnancy. At the time, I did some research and found out about a technique of chiropracy for pregnant women. I went to see a Chiropractor for the last 3 months of my pregnancy (my hips and pelvis were hurting me so much I couldn't walk anymore because of my extra weight and my big baby in my belly). She helped me a little but I have to be perfectly honest with you, it wasn't as amazing as a lot of other women seeemed to say. But at this stage, any relief even minor is good to take. Maybe you should give it a try and see if it works for you. Her name is Dr Ruth Y. Durkee, Hands for Health Chiropractic, 4111 N. Central Expy, Suite 101, Dallas TX 75204, ###-###-####.

Good luck, the pain won't last just like your pregnancy, I hope you get better soon.

Hi J.,

I had the same thing when pregnant with my son. My doctor told me to take a magnesium/calcium supplement right before bed. (I don't remember the amount, so check with your doctor if you decide to do this.) It didn't make the aches go away completely, but it did help. Also, I noticed that once the weather got to be consistently warm, the aches went away completely. I'm not sure if this was just coincidence or not, but hopefully yours will go away soon!

Jen - you are in your 3rd trimester. Every pregnancy is different - just like the people that are growing in your warm and bouyant womb. The hormones are preparing your cartilages to give way to the delivery of your wonderful present. This softening is causing increase of fluids to the area - pushing against the already built and solid bones in between. Weight gain which is inevitable with pregnancy with baby wt and water gain will put pressure against the pelvic canal.
Tylenol(no motrin or any other type NSAIDS),limit your salts, rest, massage, elevate your feet. Visualization - if this even possible with a toddler around. Kinda like Yoga without the Namaste positions. just the breathing with soft music and dimmed lights. Maybe as your dtr goes down for a nap.
I hope this helps.

OK as an OB nurse here goes, its being pregnant and with each pregnancy the pains and aches can get worse.
Ask your physician about a massage or seeing a chiropracter. Some of these professionals require a physician release and some do not. Do your research and see what is available in your area. Just remember its not forever, it may seem that way but remember what you are carrying is a gift from God.

I would definately go back to a Prenatal Yoga class - but, make sure that your teacher is well trained in Prenatal - some of them just take a quick weekend course or try to apply what they know of regular yoga.

It's very different during pregnancy and you'll be able to meet up with other moms with similar issues.

Try the following website to look for a well-trained teacher. www.mamasteyoga.com or contact Rhythm and Moves studio in Southlake - they have a prenatal program that's awesome.
