3 Year Gags/vomits When She Is "Grossed" out....anyone Else?

So weird, it just started about 3 weeks ago. If my daughter sees something that is "gross", she begins to gag and sometimes throws up. She sometimes does not even like to see her own poop!! She has thrown up because there was a tiny piece of bannana on her finger. She has thrown up because of the thought of eating eggs when she did not want them. Most of the time we can prevent the throw up if we catch her beginning to gag. She is a healthy girl-always in the 90 percentile at her check ups. Just wondering if this too shall pass? She has only thrown up one time before this started. She did not even spit up as a baby! Thanks for your time mamas (:

LOL! Yes, it will pass. You just reminded me of when my 3 year old daughter threw up in the van one time when she saw her brother throw up; and of another time when she saw her brother's poop in the toilet and started to gag. She used to start gagging anytime she saw something gross.

She will grow out of it.

I do this as does my husband. My kids do too. It's normal. Some people are just sensitive to gross things and textures that they find disgusting.

However, if you're finding that she's suddenly sensitive to a lot of different tactile textures and things are making her gag to the point that it's interfering with daily life... then you may need to have her evaluated for a Sensory Processing Disorder aka Sensory Integration Disorder. Gagging because she has a piece of banana on her finger shouldn't elicit a gag reflex.

A friend has a daughter (does not have Autism) that gagged and threw up when they put shaving cream on her hand. They were playing with different textures and were shocked when that happened. She couldn't eat ice cream with whipped cream... the texture made her throw up. She has a lot of issues with food and clothes because she's so very sensitive to textures. And I can relate because I have a daughter (on the Autism Spectrum) who also has Sensory Processing Disorder (related to the Autism)and self-restricts her diet because of tactile textures.

Some babies, children, adults have a sensitive gag reflex. She may have just started this because she's just discovered her sensitive uvula. My adult daughter and now her two children all gag easily. They've toughened up some over time.

my ex has a very bad gag reflex...he even gag when he gets nervous. So both of our kids have it too. although they are now 11 and 8 and haven't had many problems in the last few years, it was worse when they were litte. In fact, my daughter threw up at school, the nurse called said I had to keep her home for 2 days so I picked her up thinking she was sick. No, she went to the bathroom and it was smelly, made her gag and throw up! I tried to tell the school this and they actually made me get a doctors note saying she wasn't sick! Ugh, but it does happen. Good luck to you!!!

I've got a gaggy kid with regard to grossness. He's now 8 and he's always been like that. He's not a puker, he never even spit up much as a baby--but he gets grossed out and he will gag!

When my younger son was that age, he would inevitably gag and throw up after every time we ate out. He had this phase for a short time, but it sure was fun to go through! He loved to eat out like the rest of us, and always wanted to go. But, sometime after the meal or when we were on our way out, he would "smell something funny" then gag and throw up. Then it was over and we'd be on our merry way. A few unfortunate restaurants had a bit of a mess in their parking lots a couple of times!
