Has anyone successfully done the 3 day potty training method? And if you have, do you think 22 months is too young to do it? Thanks!

So What Happened?

I decided to try it and to my amazement it has worked very well. I put her in panties and haven't gone back. It took about 6 days for her to really catch on but since then she's been doing very well. She naps in panties but still wears a diaper at night. I don't put her in diapers at all during the day, even when we're going out. I make sure she goes potty before we leave to go somewhere and I always stop at the potty in the store with her. She is still working on getting the pooping down but does it in the potty 50% of the time and always gets me right away if she goes in her panties. We've had some accidents while out which is frustrating but we made a road trip with her to SA and managed stay dry the whole time. I fully recommend this method to anyone. It's a downloadable manual called the 3 day potty training manual by Lora Jenson. My daughter is 23 months old and we started this right after my original post which I think was around 5 weeks ago. Thanks for everyone's suggestions!

I don't know the 3-day method, but my 23 mo old son has been working on potty training himself since 18 months, and we just fully potty trained him in 2 days. Age shouldn't determine when you potty train - the child's individual readiness should. My first son didn't potty train until he was 3 1/2. Good luck!

I did the potty training in a day method and it was amazing. My son was 2 years 4 months when I did it and he was pooping and peeing in the potty on the first day. We did eventually had a regression with poop, but he only had one accident the whole first week. I think the method works but it is very dependent on really making sure it is the right time for your child...so maybe 22months is a bit young. Let me know if you have any more questions. I think the book I went by was called "1,2,3 potty train"

Hope this helps,

Y.

Did it and yes it works great. I used it on my daughter at 26 months old, but wished I had did it much sooner. Everyone kept telling me she was to young and there would be signs of her wanting to be potty trained. Well at 26 months we still had no signs. I found the 3 day potty training e-book and bought it. I started on a Friday and by Sunday she was potty trained day and night (pee). Now pooping took us another 2 months to get down, but I did not follow the guide with pooping because I was really wanting to get pee down and figured pooping would be much easier (I was wrong). If you follow the guide for both I think it would work great. My son is now 20 months old and I will try it with him in Jan. when he is 22 months because that is the age they say is best to start. My friend did it with her daughter this past weekend she will be 2 in a few weeks. She is doing great with it. Just remember no more diapers or pull ups once you start you can't stop. It will be a rough at first and lots of cleaning, but trust me when I say it can work if you do it correctly. Best of luck!

I think you have to take potty training on a case-by-case basis. For some kids, I'm sure 22 months might be young. There was a child in my son's church class that was fully potty trained before that! Mine is 22 months and has expressed a LOT of interest in the potty. He's always going to it and picking up the lid and says "pee pee". The other day he had a bad diaper rash and the nurse advised us to leave his diaper off... Well, with there not being the comfort of a diaper there, he sure did want that potty! He went 3 times in 2 days(this was when he did not have his diaper on during that weekend). Might be something to try. I was scared he'd pee on the floor, but he got all nervous when he had to go and wanted the potty. We dont push it bc he is a little younger, but only you know your child and can help determine when they are ready or not. Good luck!

I found it only really works if the child is 100% ready to do it. I tried it numerous times with my oldest son. He took over a year to be completely potty trained. My youngest, did it in one day. I just waited until he told me he wanted to go. Once he said I want to go potty, he did from there on out. I know people have done it at that young of an age, so I know it can be done. But at that age, it'll be a lot more work on you.

I did this method with my son at 2 1/2. We would have done earlier, but we had a baby at 2 and wanted to wait until we thought he had a decent chance at not regressing.

It worked well. I will warn you that it is very emotionally tough. The first night I met my husband at the back door and told him that Luke was done for the day and that I was going to go get a pedicure. (I've never done that before :)

I think you watch your kiddo. Mine was bringing me the wipes and a new diaper, laying on the floor and telling me that he needed changing. Make sure that he's showing some signs of rediness. If he is, then go ahead and do it! Good luck!

I laugh because......I rememeber thinking that we were going to to that. You can't set a time lime for your kiddos potty's training.....trust me....they'll do that for you. Good luck and be patient.....it will happen over time.

At 16 months my daughter would wake with a dry diaper and not wet until about 15-30 minutes after awakening. I asked her doctor about it. He said she had great bladder control and to try potty training if I was ready. My girl was trained in a day to pee and within two weeks to poop in the potty. She was ready early because physically she could 'hold' it. My son took longer because his bladder couldn't hold it even overnight. He had night accidents until age 4. So, it depends upon the diaper changes etc. right now. If your baby is ready physically, go for it.

Hi Cara,
My name is T. and I do have some experience w/this particular potty training method. Though it has been many years I used it on 6 of my 8 children and since on 2 of my granddaughters! Like anything else it will work differently depending on your follow through and most especially your childs personality. At the very least it was a tremendous help to get things started so that your child has a clear understanding of what you want from them.
This method was a God send to me but you will still have to adapt it to your child. For example: A couple of my children still took a bottle at night and were very sound sleepers so they stayed in their night diapers for a little longer. One of my sons was so active and waited to the last min. for everything (which he still does at 19!) and sometimes had an accident on the way to the toilet. One daughter was so stubborn and just didn't care if she was wet or not so I kept her in diapers for a few more months to avoid the "battle of the wills" game. The second time I tried it, with her, I did it much slower and used the techniques in the book to help me w/her and it took about 2 weeks but when she finally did it she never had an accident day or night.
If you give the undivided attention, do as directed and stay unruffled it will be a great success!
Also you asked about her being 22 months old...The method gives you a couple of ways to figure out if your child is ready or not but it still recommends that you wait until she is at least 24 months. It has been my experience that, that is very sound advise. That 2 extra months does, indeed, make a difference...but I still had one of the 8 that was completelly potty trained before 2...so there again...it depends on the child...but why rush things? Two more months in diapers could make all the difference in the world.
Good luck and enjoy the time w/your baby!
Sincerely T.

I'm not sure-I did the Toilet Training in Less than a Day. I first tried it when she was 2 1/2, but she wasn't ready so I waited 3 mos and she was trained in no time, without ever using pullups, day or night. I believe that the book says that if the child is over 2 1/2, they don't need night time help, and mine only had a couple of accidents. I know yours is 22 mos and it would've been too young for mine. But more power to you if yours is ready! Good luck.

Only you will know whether your child is ready or not. If he is telling you when he needs to go or has gone, he is probably ready. I did the three day method on my daughter when she was about 23 months old. It's tough, but it worked. We still can't make it all the way through the night. I'm not too worried about it. She'll get it eventually. We did go through the regression after about 3 or 4 months, so just expect that. It's aggravating because you know they can do it, but they won't. Then all of a sudden one day it will be back to normal. Just make sure you do it on a weekend, and that you can devote all your time to it. You are going to be tied to that potty all weekend! But it's so worth it in the end! Good luck!!

Yes, I did it, but my daughter was closer to 2 1/2. I don't necessarily think 22 mos. is too young, it depends on the child. Some children are more ready than others, especially if they are not the first child and they see their older siblings going potty. I used www.easypottytraining.com (a $12 downloadable manual that is money-back guaranteed, and you can email them for help while you're potty training). By the end of the 2nd day, my 2-year old was saying to me "mommy, I need to go potty" and she would go all by herself. I LOVED it and would recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to get caught up in taking their child to the potty every 1/2 hour.
Best of luck!

Haven't tried it, but I do know that potty training takes more than three days, so it doesn't sound reasonable. And yes, 22 months is too young to potty train.

only works as a ground basis...not as a final solution. and i would say 22 months is too young for potty training period.
