2.5-Month-old Teething?
hello -- I have a beautiful 2.5-month-old son and usually he is pretty good. Sometimes he has his moods, but don't we all? Anyway, all day today he has been crying, sleeping very little and eating a lot. I have noticed that today he has started to chew on his fist and is drooling a little. Also, when I was feeding him his bottle, he was chewing on the nipple at first. I have read that they could get teeth this early, but wanted to know if anyone else experienced this.
So What Happened?™
Thanks to everyone who sent great advice! I will definately try some methods suggested.
It is nice to know that everyone's in the same boat!

He definetly could be-or he's hungry! I would wait a few days longer and see how it goes.....good luck ( he may be ready for cereal)

Unfortionatly, they can start the signs and symptoms of teething and still not get teeth for months. My daughters started about the same time and didn't show teeth until aabout 4.5 months old! A.

Yes! My son started showing signs of teething at around 2-1/2 months and it took about 2 months for the first tooth to cut through completely. Hyland's Teething Tablets worked wonders for us! They are homeopathic lactose based tablets that dissolve instantly on the tongue and have ingredients to promote dentation, soothe the crankiness and help with the pain and discomfort. They can be found at most drugstores and at natural food stores that carry homeopathic remedies.

As in all developmental areas, babies are on a continuum...some will develop teeth early, some late. Some will lose teeth later than others, too. We had a fantastic red teether that other moms raved about called Super Yummy. You can find it at www.toysofdiscovery.com. Enjoy your baby boy!

This sounds like a growth spurt more than teething. It is very unlikely that he will get teeth any time soon, more likely that he is needing to eat more for a few days and he found his mouth so he is experimenting with putting things in it. That is what my son's doc told me when he went through that.

My son started teething at 9 weeks. But it was a bad day here and there. He didn't cut his first tooth until 4 months. There are some babies who get teeth this young, but most experience an on again off again teething pain for several weeks before they cut their first tooth.
But Rules are meant to be broken....
Good Luck!

Mine did the same thing from 8 weeks, but no teeth until 5 months. Our doc told us that the tooth buds forming hurt them, just like regular teething. On the other hand, my friend's baby had 3 teeth by 3 months! So either way, it's completely normal!
I didn't find that many things helped my son out. He didn't like cold things, and couldn't hold anything in his own mouth yet. So I gave him a little tylenol, and just held him a lot.
Good luck!

Hi R.,
It's so funny you posted this question! I also have a son who is 2 1/2 months and I was thinking the same thing!!!! He is drooling a whole lot and wants to chew on everything he can get his little mouth on! My husband and I were wondering if he was teething! So I guess I am not helping to answer your question, just in the same boat! Good luck.

R., I have three boys and my first one got his first tooth by 3 months of age. Give him Teething Tablets or Teething Gel, but the tablets you know you got it in him whereas the gel if he doesn''t open up might get some on his lips and not the gums. It won't him a bit because it's homeopathic/natural rather than the other things that have chemicals in them. You may want to keep wiping his chin becasue my sons got it so bad that it was red and rash all on their chins because of the drooling so much. Congrats on your beautiful child. I will pray that God will give you the Wisdom you need for your son and we are help to help too.

Our pediatrician said that our daughter's gums were swollen (the beginning of teething, apparently)at 2 months. She chomps on everything, and as my husband and I are waiting for teeth any minute, friends have told us that teeth could still be months away!
