Im 24 weeks pregnant and feeling severe dizziness as I woke up. I also puke and have nausea and diarrhea. Its been 7 days now but same thing. Consulted doc and she suggested some medicines but nothing happens. Dizziness and diarrhea is still there, not gone fully. I stopped medicines after 4 days again the same thing. Dizziness has exceeded its limit now. I cant stand, walk or sit. If I lie down then its ok but of i get up then again feels dizzy, nauseated and stomache coz of diarrhea. Is anyone else experiencing this? I can feel my baby kicks but concerned if this thing will not affect my baby. I cannot eat anything coz the moment i eat feels like puking. So fed up. :(
Doc has asked me to stop taking iron till im on other medicines. But as i stopped those medicines i took iron tab and i again felt dizzy and nauseated.. any suggestions or experiences from anyone.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

My doc said that this is common and it happens during pregnancy . She said that its happening coz of acidity and asked me to take medicines for not more than 4 days and stop iron and calcium pills till you are on these medicines. So after completing my 4 days course i started with iron and calcium pills and stopped taking acidity and vomiting medicines. As i took iron pill i started feeling dizzy and puking after half an hour. So i stopped iron and continued with calcium pill. But today when i woke up i found vomiting and diarrhoea is gone but dizziness is still there. I cannot stand and work for more than an hour else i feel dizzy. Started taking lots of liquid and water. My friend suggested to take salt and sugar water and that helps but for 2 hours. Dizziness remains for the whole day but better than before atleast i can sit and stand. Took today's appointment for doc. Thank you everyone for your suggestions.. :)

I wouldn't fool around with this - dehydration (from vomiting, diarrhea and not eating/drinking) is serious, and what can happen is that your blood sugar level drops so low that it results in more nausea. So it's a vicious cycle.

At 24 weeks, you should be well past the morning sickness thing, and that doesn't come with diarrhea anyway. And I am sure you would have mentioned it if you'd be nauseated all along.

I don't know whether you have a virus or intestinal bug - some of those can last a while. However, I'm kind of shocked that your doctor just gave you medicine to take (how does one keep it down if one is throwing up all the time?) and didn't follow up. Did you stop the medicine because it didn't work at all? You said "nothing happens" so you stopped after 4 days, but then you say everything has come back, so maybe the medicine was doing something? Hard to know without knowing what you took.

It's ridiculous to be 24 weeks pregnant and not have your doctor be more concerned. Did you call the doctor at the 4 day point or the 7 day point? Or does the doctor not know this? You went off the iron (makes sense - that can upset the stomach) but then you stopped the other meds and went back on the iron. Did you update the doctor on this? Don't mess around with starting/stopping medications while pregnant without consulting your doctor.

Regardless, if you cannot get through to your OB/GYN immediately and update him/her on this situation, or if you have talked to the doctor through this and don't trust him/her, I really think you need to go to Urgent Care or perhaps even the ER and get some IV fluids (bypassing your stomach so you won't get sick). Don't drive - have someone take you.

When you get through this crisis, please find a doctor you can confide in and trust.

You need to be in a hospital, getting IV fluids until they figure out what's wrong... dehydration can push you into pre-term labor, and that could prove catastrophic at 24 weeks. If your OB won't admit you, go in through the ER THIS MORNING. Please don't wait.

This is nothing to mess around with. Nausea and vomiting can cause dehydration. You need to call your doctor right now. It's possible you need to be admitted to the hospital (to replenish your fluids).

Tell your doctor that those medicines aren't helping. Don't just stop taking them, tell your doctor. There might be a different medicine that will help. But you have to talk to your doctor right away!

I had all-day sickness with my oldest for pretty much my entire pregnancy. When it got really bad like you are describing they would admit me to the hospital for IV fluids and nausea meds. You need to go to the ER if it's been that long and no food or liquids. It is very dangerous. You can go into preterm labor like the others said. I almost lost my baby because of this. I was admitted at least 7 times through that pregnancy. It's not something to mess with. Please take care of yourself. And if your Dr is not too concerned you need to find a new one that knows what they are doing.

Did you call the OB/GYN or your personal general physician? You might call both of them and go in for a check up. The pregnancy might not be causing any of this and you might just have a strong stomach bug. One of my pregnant friends is down with strep and she's due in weeks.

The OB/GYN should be able to do some blood work to see what's going on internally regarding baby needs but the regular doc might also want to run different tests.

i have had 2 kids. never experienced that. its not normal. and if i was in your shoes i would of gone to the er. please go there and get checked immediately. dehydration can cause dizziness and if you are to the point that you cannot sit nor stand without being dizzy could be a blood issue too so please go to the er and get checked
