Hi all, my 2 year old took a pencil to our computer screen. Eraser seems to be just smearing it and I feel I am pressing so h*** o* the soft screen I may be causing more damage... any ideas out there how to get it off?
So I did the easiest thing and wiped it off with a baby wipe... it got almost all of it. Yay! It looks much better. but there are a few smudges and a line or two that seem to be permanent. Oh well. I guess I can try the magic eraser stuff- several of you mentioned it. At least, with all the positive things you all said about it, I now feel it is a product I must have in my cleaning repertoire! Where do I find this Magic Eraser, is it at the grocery store?

I use a Magic Eraser to clean off my lap top computer screen. I think it is under the "Mr. Clean" brand. Good Luck!
Try magic Eraser sometimes it doesn't really need water. Is it an actual screen vs a glass front? if so you'll need to clean the entire screen and it is a "B" to get even.

I have a flat screen monitor, and two little boys =] I have used the magic eraser DRY several time for pencil, pen, markers and crayons! Just use a light touch and it the magic eraser will remove the marks without the streaks. You do not need to press hard nor do you need to get the eraser wet. Good luck.
Be careful not to scratch/dent the monitor...
try and call your computer store, and ask them.
My twin boys colored with crayons on our LCD TV. The only thing that worked was WD40. Spray it on a rag first then wipe. Good Luck!!

If warm water and a little soap doesn't help to remove it, try the Mr. Clean Erasers. They get ANYTHING off of EVERYTHING! Good luck!

The wet wipes you can use to clean prescription glasses can also be used on computer monitors. I haven't had writing on mine yet, but I know they work really nice to get fingerprints and other smears off.
DO NOT PUT WATER OR SOAP ON TO YOUR COMPUTER!!!!!!! Todays computer screens should have very little contact with human hands, cleaning them as little as possible even.
If it is an LCD screen it is even more important to me very very very gentle! Never put even the slightest pressure on the computer screen with your hand. Always turn the computer off before you clean. Find a soft cloth something soft enough or even softer then you would need to clean a pair of glass. Then dilute white viniger with distilled water (Not tap salt can be in the water and leave streaks). Put it in a spray bottle and mist the cloth. NOT THE SCREEN!!! Then clean with strokes in one directing (you can try gently using a q-tip of rough spots still going in the same direction.) It can take a long time to get a spot off because you have to apply practly no pressure. LET THE SCREEN DRY BEFORE YOU TURN IT BACK ON. I am also a strong believer in the power of the magic eraser but I think that it will be to much pressure for the screen. The also have cleaners that you can buy in the store. I hope that this helps if nothing else you will know to not put too much pressure on the screen it will destroy it big time!
I feel you! My 2 year old did the same thing to my moms flat screen, it was everywhere! I turned the monitor off and used baby wipes. IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM!
my kid did the same thing to my laptop and I was waiting to find an eraser and it was on there a few days. my husband was on my computer and licked his finger and wiped it off! worth a try!
HI, my daughter wrote with red sharpie on ours, so I used rubbing alcohol and rubbed gently...since then her brother used pencil, and I just cleaned the screen with windex..we have a flat screen monitor....good luck
