My 17 month old has recently begun to poop in the bathtub. He never really did it before a month and a half ago. Any advice on how to stop this?

What can I do next?

Two of my kids did the same thing for a stretch. I just had to change the time of day I was bathing them. They were just pooping at the same time each day. Good luck!

Can you tell when it is coming?? I could tell when it was coming and then would take out of the bath and put my girl on the toliet and then back in the bath. She was constipated and the warm tub always relaxed her, so I just tried to anticipate it.

Both my kids went through this phase around that age. There's not much you can do about it, unless you can tell when he's about to go and plop him on the potty. Stay calm, don't freak out when he goes in the bath because then he may become afraid to take a bath after seeing your reaction!! (This happened with my 2nd child) He will grow out of it in time.

My son is 3 and he still gets out in the middle of his bath for a potty break. When he was around your childs age, we would catch him before he started and place him on the potty.

I wish I could help, but I am in the same boat with my 18 month old daughter. I don't remember this with my 2 older kids....She doesn't poop on a schedule, so we never know if she is going to poop or not. We just immediatly take her out and clean/sanitize everything that was in the tub and clean her up as well (with clean water of coarse...lol)...

I will watch to see which great advice you get...

Hey N.!!!

My 2 year old used to do this too! He just turned 2 in April, and he hasn't done it for several months now. Don't worry, he will grow out of this, I don't think they can help the urge! Nice warm bath water helps them feel relaxed.

They grow out of that stage pretty quickly. I would always pop my daughter on the toilet before her bath and then hoped for the best. :-)

As soon as our kids could sit on the toilet without being afraid (we used a seat insert and/or a potty chair), we just made sitting on the toilet/potty chair part of the bathtime routine - sit on the toilet, clothes off, into the tub. They don't always go, but it's become routine.

Our doctor told us that warm water, especially around the stomach, helps relax the bowels. This is actually helpful if a kid is constipated. Hope things improve for you!
