10 Month Old on International Flight

My daughter lives in South Korea, in Seoul.... I'll ask her when she gets up. (She is home visiting for the summer.)

Basically, I believe on international flights you get two checked bags at no charge...

If your hubby is military, you should be able to get the food and formula on base. I know my daughter buys a lot of stuff at Costco in Seoul... she isn't military, though.

Ask hubby to check out the PX.... have him look specifically for the formula brand you use... it should be available, unless you use something different.

Also, you can get the small hand food grinder to make baby food.... take that along, and just feed him what you eat (within reason, anyway). My daughter says that Korean babies, once they start eating, just eat what mommy eats! She will check with a few friends that have raised little ones over there, also.

I agree with everything Malia said. Have hubby check out shopping on base and even text you pictures if he isn't sure what to look for. People with babies live on base, so there should be things avaliable. It might not be the brands you use, but it's worth looking into before you go.
As far as packing formula and baby food, as long as it's in checked luggage it will be fine for taking on the plane, as far as I know there are only restrictions on what is in your carry on. Just call the airline and explain the situaiton. They will be able to give you specific instructions and advice. I'd hate for you to go by what someone on here says and they be wrong (wrong airline, things change, etc.). Then you would get to the airport and be s.o.l.

What if you shipped some supplies over ahead of time? I've been reading that a lot of people are even shipping their clothes instead of pay the luggage fines. Then you could take just what you need for the trip. You're not going to want to be dragging too much stuff along, anyway.

Yikes, well I know what adults can do. We checked all our fluids so we didn't have to deal with that as a carry on. In carry ons you are restricted to two or three clear bottles with no more than four ounces in them. If I were you I would pick wisely what you bring because that isn't much.

Everything else put in your checked luggage.

I would call the airline specifically and get all the details. When I flew with my son I honestly can't remember what the deal was but I do remember them making sure my son's bottle had only water in it (they did a special test on it!) They actually told me that one time a couple had come on board with a baby claiming it was formula in the bottle but it was actually an explosive substance and they were terrorists. Thankfully they didn't get away with it! But can you imagine them using a baby in that way?? That is why they limit or inspect any fluids including baby bottles just to be safe. I was absolutely shocked when the guard told me that. I pray you and your little one have a wonderful trip. My brother was stationed in South Korea too!

As a fellow military wife and mommy I think I can fill you in! We just took a long plane ride a few weeks ago so here's what happens.

You are military if you are flying with any big brand, continental united american etc all of your bags are FREE. Do NOT let them charge you. Especially because you are flying to see your husband and it's basically orders. We went to hawaii on vacation and didn't pay a cent.

You are not limited on fluids on the plane. I know some websites say you are blah blah blah. The TSA has signs that say parents are NOT limited. When you go through security, separate the bottles out, they will scan it with this laser (doesn't hurt a thing) and it tells them what's in the bottle. No biggie. We had a 75lb SECOND checked bag and didn't pay a dime :) so pack all the formula and diapers you think you'll need.. ask your hubby before takeoff to check the BX (base exchange) and see if they carry your formula or can get it.. also the diapers, wipes, whatever else you might have to buy (don't forget stuff like baby wash, diaper cream, etc..).
