1 Yr Old Won't Drink Her Milk

I just recently stopped giving my 1 yr old Formula, and started her on Whole Milk. She absolutely does not like it. Doesn't matter what sippy cup i give it to her in and will only drink it if she's crazy hungry and only out of a baby bottle.
My question is: Is milk really that important? I know that it's good for bones and such, but what do i do? She won't take it. She sips a gulp or two and spits it out---she's even takin to not wanting to eat her rice cereal if it's in it!
Help!

My baby is 10 months old and I was wondering if she would like whole milk too??I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it!! Just a thought...I've seen a new product from Enfamil with Lipil toddler drink. I got a free sample in the mail the other day from Enfamil and also noticed it on the shelf next to the powdered formula I buy at the grocery store. Maybe it tastes like formula? maybe it's expensive??? I have no idea. I know my little one won't eat anything I give her by spoon. She has to feed herself and I'm worried she isn't getting enough calories so I'm very grateful for the formula. I might consider the Toddler formual when she reaches one year old since she's such a picky eater.
ANother note...where in Canada are you from??? I am Canadian too. I'm from Niagara Falls and feel the s ame way you do!!! I have no family here and am soooooooo homesick!!! Just me, my baby girl and husband! I've been in Houston almost 13 years and am still homesick!! Email me!!

I will echo another response -- soy milk. It is sweeter. My daughter (now 3) loved milk and I never had a problem with her going to milk or cup, but my son (16 months) wouldn't drink milk at all when we switched. It was our pediatrician who recommended the soy milk, and it worked great! She said there are just some kids who don't like the taste of regular milk. I actually mix whole milk and soy milk now for him (after seeing him "steal" his sister's cup and drink straight milk), and he will drink it fine. You can buy the flavored soy milk (we like vanilla), and most of the brands I've seen will have plenty of calcium in it. Still, our pediatrician said to be sure to supplement calcium with other foods like yogurt & cheese, if your daughter will eat that. Good luck!

Hi, you might try moving her to regular milk gradually. You might try 2% rather than whole milk and mix in a little of the formula that she was on. This way it isn't such a drastic change. I know you don't want the extra "sweet" stuff but I have heard of some people putting a little chocolate syrup or strawberry in it to flavor it. You might even try the smoothie mixes or something like that so that she is getting the calcium that she needs. She should get her daily milk, it is so important.
Good Luck...

you might try dry milk. my middle daughter wasnt able to drink formula and she loved the taste of dry milk. you might talk with her doctor about adding vitaims because dry milk doesnt have very many. She might realy like the dry milk and its cheaper then regular milk as well.

try mixing her formula with milk (mostly formula), then gradually mix more and more milk with less and less formula until you have only milk. i know many moms will tell you to try soy milk, but she will likely not like that taste any more than regular milk, and soy milk is very expensive. and yes, the milk is very important. calcium is vital for bones and teeth, not just now, but for her whole life (and yours too) if you're not getting enough calcium your bones and teeth will suffer in the long run.

How did you switch her to milk? I would suggest going back to formula and gradually mixing in the milk. Start with 7 oz. of formula and 1 oz. milk (for example), after a few days, add an oz. of milk and take an oz. of formula away. Do this until it's completely milk. It's a subtle change, and not so obvious to her taste buds. Good luck!

Well, from what I've been reading lately it sounds like milk isn't that important as long as your child recieves calcium from other foods. There's a lot of growth hormones in regular whole milk now that's not that good for our children. I am still nursing, but when we stop, I may only give her one cup a day. Maybe try mixing it with formula or breastmilk (whatever she drank before). It's also not a terrible thing if you mix it with a TINY bit of chocolate syrup. But don't feel like your child needs to drink a certain amount of milk per day to survive. Just make sure she's eating a diet, along with things that contain milk like cheese and yogurt. I hope I helped.

She may not like it. She may have an aversion to it.
You can try - soy milk, like Silk. It is sweeter than whole cow's milk. Do you warm it up? Have you tried adding a little chocolate or strawberry mix to it?

Milk or formula is very important to a babies diet until they are 2 years old. Because they get most of their calories from it. How is her solids intake? IS she eating a balanced diet or solid food?

I have an 18 month old son who didn't drink his milk either. I use Nestle Quick chocolate powder in my milk because I can't drink milk by itself either, so I put very litte in his sippy cup and he will drink the entire serving of milk. You may want to try this, but just use very little and let her see you put the powder in her milk, this helps my son. I hope it will help your baby.

Hi, my name is S. and my children are young adults now but I have a 3yr. old grandson and when we made the switch for formula to whole milk we would add water to it to thin it out like the formula and it work just fine. Try it,and don't let the baby see you fixing it because they remember the containter that you use when fixing the formula, they know colors beleive it or not, at that age theycan't tell it to you, but seeing you with it when it's feeding time. good luck.
