So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone who responded to my request. We got two shots and an iron test. I thought we had to get the MMR, but that is later. (We are actually going to put it off until she is 2). Thanks again for your help! This is a great group of MOMS!

Hello D.,

My daughter had her shots on Monday...she got the chicken pox, MMR, Hepatitis A, and the final pneumononnal. The hepatitis A they can't have before they are a year. The pricked her finger and did a hemoglobin and a lead test. The lead test is something new they are doing. I think in response to all of the recalls for lead based paint. Typically they start giving the flu shot sometime in October, so I was disappointed that they didn't have that so I'm going to have to make an additional trip. Hope thing helps!

It really depends on the dr. My ped. gives a list at the first newborn visit. At 12 mos., our kids got the MMR#1, Varivax (chicken pox), and Prevnar #4. 2 more shots at 15 mos. and then no more until age 4!!! Well, except for the flu shot if we do that.

I just took my little girl on 9/19 and she had PCV7, Hib, MMR. She goes back at 15 months and will get Polio, chicken pox and DTaP. I also hate for her to get shots, but know it is best for her. After 15 months, they said she will get one at 24 months, and then no more until 4-5 years.

My pediatrician is Dr. Jason Smith and my one yr old just got his shots a week ago. He got 3 shots AND they drew blood out of his finger. The shots were for chicken pox, MMR and I can't remember what the 3rd one was. (I know that's terrible!) The nurse told me that the blood drawn was something new they were implementing for 12 mo check ups. I have two girlfriends in Atlanta with different pediatricians (both babies are 12 mos). Neither of them had blood drawn but they got 4 shots. The extra shot was the flu shot.

As a mama who does not vax, I advise you to research, research, research. Find out exactly what your child may be getting, what the ingredients are, and what possible side effects may be.

For me, the benefits DO NOT outweigh the risks (autism, disease from live vaccines, brain injury, death)-I have several friends whose children were severely injured by vaccinations.

I would also suggest not getting them all at once, if you plan to vax. That way, you can see (in case there are reactions) which causes it.

I cant quite remember but why exactly do you want to know before the visit? You also could probably do some web searching and fins out what shots babies at 1 yr typically get.My almost 15 month old has a visit on the 11th of OCT and I believe he has to get shots then too.I dread my kids getting shots. With my first he would hold his breath until he finally let all of the crying out at once and my baby gives that confused look right when they prick him and a few seconds after, then all of a sudden his lip pokes out and he starts welling up and then the crying comes...very stressful as a mom.Especially when he has to get more than 1 at a time.I wish there was a painless way to give kids the vaccinces. Before my babies visit Im going to call the office and ask if they can also give my 4 yr old the flu shot along with the baby so that I dont have to make 2 different trips.
