Yeast Rash on 3 Year Old That Wont Go Away

Hi Moms,

My son has has a yeast rash for about a month and a half. We have tried the oral antibiotics, the anti-fungal cream and other basic remedies but nothing seems to help. I am sure it is yeast by the way it responds to sugar etc... The rash is all around his groin area and is starting to spread up his back. I am at my wits end.

Does anyone have any suggestions of treatments that have worked for you. Also, how long did it take for them to work, am I being too impatient, I know these types of rashes can take some time to clear.

Thanks in advance for all the great mama advice.

What can I do next?

Go back to the doctor. It could be an allergic reaction to either something he's ate or a soap... either body or laundry soap. It could be eczema as well.

My daughters had some issues with yeast rashes and the only thing that ever worked for them was prescription Nystatin cream from the pediatrician.

We use good old fashioned Monistat, but then put Desitin over the top of it. Otherwise, he just pee's it off. We make sure to put cream on him with every diaper change.

If that's not working, I would definitely get to the pediatrician to see if it's something else.

go back to the doctor. the creams should work and antibiotics aren't necessarily a good idea if it is yeast.

also consider a good probiotic

You have to keep the cream on them at least four times a day and make sure that even when it looks cleared up, keep it on for a few more days.
A little girl that I used to babysit looked like she had the same thing, but after 2 months of it, I urged her mother to take her to the doctor. Turns out it had turned into a staph infection. You might call your pedi to make sure it isn't something worse.

Antibiotics make yeast rash worse by killing off all bacteria and everything else the body uses to defend itself. Yeast is not affected by antibiotic.
When you bathe your son put a half a cup of vinegar in his bath water. Use
a cup of vinegar in the rinse water when you wash his clothes.
Take him off all sugar. It takes about three to four weeks for the vinegar to become effective.
The alternative is to take him to a homeopath. Yeast is an imbalance in the system.

Try soaking him in a bath with some apple cider vinegar. You also need to get him on a good probiotic. Pharmax has a good one for kids. Antibiotics cause yeast infections. I would also take him to see a naturopath doctor for other ideas. Good luck.

Antiobiotics can cause yeast infections so that could be one of the causes of it.

Have you switched detergents or soaps? If not, you may want to to ensure it's not that.

Cut out dairy for a few days to see if that makes a difference.

Put diaper cream on the areas you can to minimize the discomfort/pain.

My daughter had a few bouts with yeast infections when she went through a phase of hating to bathe. Don't know if there was a connection but since I've gotten her to sit in a tub more regularly again we haven't had a problem. Anyway - I first tried putting vinegar rinse, yogurt, probiotic paste on the rash with lots of diaper free time... but what ended up working for us when that alone didn't was Monistat cream applied with every diaper change and regular diaper creme over it. Plus giving her probiotics orally, usually added to baby yogurt. And as much diaper free time as possible. I also had the suggestion of Gentian Violet but had a hard time finding it. Call around to pharmacies to see who has it before you go looking.

Go back to the doctor. It could be an allergic reaction to either something he's ate or a soap... either body or laundry soap. It could be eczema as well.
