Yep, I've had unreadable paps twice. It doesn't mean abnormal at all. It just means that they didn't get a good sample of cervical cells to read it. You just need to go in and get another one done. Oh joy, as if the first one wasn't fun enough. Don't worry!

I have had a few abnormal pap's in my life....don't know if that is the same as unreadable??? Anyway my point is that I would go back in for another and that one would come back normal. Unreadable could mean the lab made a mistake, the dr. did not get enough cells on the swab, etc.

I would not worry about it too much!

Hi. When I got pregnant with my daughter my pap came back as unreadable. They ended up having to redo it as well. The second time it came back as completely normal. My doctor said that a number of things could go wrong causing it to come back unreadable such as they don't get enough cells etc... I wouldn't worry about it too much. Most likely it is nothing.

hey just to let you know mine came back the same a few yrs ago and the retest was fine. you could always call the dr office and request a closer date if they dont have any at this time ask about taking someone elses cancelation time it kinda puts you in short notice but most generally it is better than having to wait. Coming from a worry wart to a worry wart:>!!!

Unreadable paps are typically nothing, but it never hurts to have another just to be sure. Definitely don't skip the one in June, so you can put your mind at ease!

What happen is they just didn't get enough tissue to test. Just repeat it and as you have said you have had no promblems in the past. Why would you have them now. Unless you are doing something different. don't worry, it cause lines :)

Hi J.,

I wouldn't worry too much about it. It happened to me last year and they just redid it. They said that they didn't get enough tissue to test. It happens alot:)

I have had like 3 pap's that I had to have redone because they came back unreadable or abnormal and they always came back fine the second time around. I'm suprised they did a pap during your period. My ob/gyn's have always said that they had to wait.

I have had this happen before. The doc told me that they just didn't get enough scraped off and they have to do it again. I think it's fairly common because there are a lot of things that may be in the way.... Trust me, going back to have them do it again ( not the whole exam, just the scraping part...) is a lot better than what you may have to go through if you wait 5 more years.
