White Noise - Rochester,NY
Hello ladies!!! Does anyone know where I can find either a whitenoise machine or cd whith hairdryer or white noise on it? I think I might have finally got my son to sleep in his crib by using the hairdryer but I don't want to leave it running for long periods of time. I have tried finding it downloadable on the internet but with no luck. Thanks to anyone who can help!

Hi J.,
I bought Soothing Sounds for Sleep from Amazon.com:

I thought it was great! This CD got us through long car rides with a sleeping baby. Ironically he liked "Highway Hum" the best (I guess the real thing wasn't good enough).
And we would play the vacuum cleaner track all night. The only trouble is that the volume decreases at the end of the track so when it repeats, there are a few seconds of silence. Other than that, it was a sanity saver. :) We used it for months.
OK, I hope that helps! Good luck!

J.,
I have used a radio static (a radio on but not tuned in to a channel) or a tv (set to a channel we do not receive and it gives off a static noise, which was nice because you can adjust the volume). Good luck!

One of my granddaughters liked the sound of white noise when she slept also. Her mother just put a small fan in her room. She didn't have it facing or blowing on the baby, just running slowly in a corner of her room. Now that her daughter is older (11 years old) sometimes her daughter turns it on at night. She said it's soothing and blocks out other noises in the house.

Why don't you tape record it yourself? Hassle, I know, but convenient... :)
Best wishes,
A.

We also use a fan in our son's room, and in the winter, we have a humidifier which makes enough noise to drown out the other household sounds (cheap humidifiers make more noise). Otherwise, we've had success with a Timex alarm clock thing with nature sounds which we got at Target. It has a chimes thing that he finds very soothing and we have it set to shut off after an hour each night. We don't use any of these things consistently though because we can't have him relying on a specific noise to sleep, for times we travel or camp, not to mention that we also have a baby still waking in the night (she's a screamer!). Good luck!

Hi - I have used a white noise machine with my daughter since she was born and she is now 2! We also used the vacuum machine but couldn't leave that running all night either. She won't sleep without it. You can find one at your local target or walmart store. Or you could also look online too. Hope that helps!

We use a radio between stations and adjust the volume as needed. The static sound is fairly level and there's no tele snow lighting up the room. It can sit on baby's trousseu or nipped under the bed. Make sure the cording is tethered well out of baby's reach should you go with the latter.
