Which soy formula is best for gassy infant?
Which soy formula is best? Is the Good Start better for constipation? I have heard constipation is a result of soy. I am thinking of switching my daughter to soy becasue she is still EXTREMELY gassy, even on the Gentlease. I am running out of options. I have tried Mylicon as well, that doesn't ake care of it. She is very gassy and fusy and in pain at times. Anyway, looking for opinions on which soy is best. Thanks!
Summary
Every child react differently with soy formula, some have allergy reaction to it, some don't. So consult with your pediatrician to make sure soy formula suits your child.
So What Happened?™
Problem solved!!!! She was not only lactose intolerant and constipated, but had reflux as well. she had to be on goodStart Soy, that ws the only formula that didn't constipate her and she likes it. She also is now on a presciption for the reflux which has helped a lot. Thanks to all who responded

Hi S.,
I'm a nurse and used to work for a pediatrician. I have two kids, ages 5 years and 2.5 years. I know all about fussy babies since both of mine had gastroesophageal reflux disease. They cried all of the time!!
Have you discussed the gas issue with your doctor? Are you breast feeding too? If so, you might need to cut some things out of your diet first. If breast milk isn't the issue, perhaps you should try a gentler type of milk based formula first, one that will help your baby digest the milk proteins easier. Milk is extremely important in the development of your baby's brain, so if you can avoid a soy based formula, you should. Hope this helps. Take care.

Our daughter was very colicky and a big spitter upper, and we tried every "trick" in the book. We eventually gave her some Zantac, which lost its effect over time. Then it was on to Prevacid. At that point, I was determined to get her off of meds.
She had a traumatic upper GI study done, only to confirm that she actually did NOT have reflux/GERD. What finally helped? Chiropractic. I never even considered visiting a chiro before her birth, but we found ourselves there to treat her. Whomever you choose, make sure he/she has extensive experience with babies.
Many are now concerned with the effects of soy formula because soy contains isoflavones, an estrogen-like substance which can alter someone's endocrine system. A day's worth of soy formula is equal to several birth control pills!
Soy formula has been banned in other countries because of its possible harmful effects. I know moms who make their own formula at home, and these are the recipes they use. It may seem daunting at first, but you can get support from other moms in the (below) forum.

We used the Enfamil Soy formula for the DHA. Also, try giving her Gripe water in her bottles (available at Whole Foods or natural food stores) to ease the gas.

Dear S.,
I am a little hesitant to say what to put into the formula to help with the constipation, but in the olden days before the type of formula that you have now adays - we used to put a teaspoon into my baby brother's formula and that helped with the constipation and gas. Also, just boil a seedless prune or two and give the baby a taste of that. Not too much, you know.
I used to tell my children that prunes were candy fruit when they needed a boost to the constipation. But, you - again have to be careful about not too much.

For constipation you might want to try apple prune juice watered down ( half juice, half water) I think the Good Start is the best Soy, but you might want to try Neutramigin as she may have colic if she is so fussy. There may also be something at the health food stores that might do the trick. I know Gripe water worked wonders for my colicky baby. Good luck!
