I am going to get on birth control.
Do you have any pills that you prefer? I actually would like to lessen my periods to almost none, but I know those types of pills can be pretty pricey.
Any experience and suggestions of one's you like better with not so terrible side effects..for example, moodiness.

What can I do next?

Try the Nuva Ring. It goes in the vagina and is low dose. Many people don't have any side effects with it at all. My friend who used it for years could not take any of the pills and had a really good experience with the Nuva Ring. If it is irritating during sex it can be taken out for short times and then put back in.

Have you ever considered an IUD? I have a Mirena and I have had it for about 2 years and I love it. Most maintenance free birth control ever. I don't have periods anymore, every once in a while I have a little spotting but that's it. I had a little cramping early on but ever since then there has been no discomfort and it's completely error proof. Just a consideration. I never liked pills because of hormonal side effects. Mirena does have a little bit of hormone but it's not much and released locally rather than all through the blood stream.

I believe that all birth control pills are low dose nowadays, and all can be taken continuously (only take the 3 active weeks, skip the week of sugar pills) for at least several cycles. Most doctors will probably want you to have 3-4 periods a year. The reasoning behind less periods is that ages ago when women were pregnant 14 times in their lives, they had a lot less periods and that this lesser amount of bleeding and the hormonal state you are in while on the pills/pregnant is preventative in terms of certain cancers. But everyone reacts differently to meds and you should simply try one your doctor recommends and then see how you adjust.

Hi. I don't do pills anymore. I'm not planning on having any more kids ( I have 2 girls 13 & 6.5) so after my second girl, I had a Mirena IUD put in. It has worked great for me. I'm on my second one (they last 5 years and insurance will cover it). I have had no problems at all, but I never had issues with my periods. It has progesterone, so my periods are greatly reduced. I never need more than panty liners when I do have them. Some women do not do well with this option for various reasons, but it's been great for me. Also, it's not permanent. If you wish to become pregnant again, just have it removed and you can start trying immediately. Ask your doctor about it. L.

Teenmom is correct. I'm on a generic pill that cost $7 a month and I go continuously for three months. My ob-gyn said that I could go six months if I wanted too, it just depends on how I'm feeling at the end of the three months.

My ob-gyn has me on Loestrin Fe. There is a coupon that you can get through your doctor's office. You activate the discount card & the prescription is only $25, even with insurance. I have endometriosis & don't plan on having anymore children, but since I'm only 35, I'm not ready for a hysterectomy. This was a great solution for me. My doc said that it doesn't matter if I have a period or not, so I take the active pills only, and will stop them for a week, quarterly or so... if that frequently. I had some headaches for the first couple of weeks taking it, but I am prone to headaches, especially hormone related, but it went away after a short time.

My daughter gets a shot every 3 months, and has very few cycles and they are very light, like maybe one day.
