Which Birth Control Pill to Choose?

I'm not entirely sure what your problems are, but I've had problems with the Nuvaring and Loestrin(pill) with naseau. They both made me have morning sickness symptoms and since being on Loestrin I've had a period every 2 weeks. Hope this helps

My Insurance only paid a tiny part of the cost of Nuva Ring - HOWEVER - Sweetbay has a prescription card that made the Nuva ring around only $35! I was so happy to find that deal! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Nuva ring! So easy, worked great (no pregnancy for 3 years) and didn't give me all the moodiness that pills gave me. The only draw back I would say is that my sex drive went down a quite a bit. I just have to make a little extra effort to want to get in the mood. Good Luck Mama!! If you have a good doctor she will discuss this with you and give you what is best for you. Everyones body is different. What works for one might not be good for another. That is why there are so many different medicines out there today. As far as remembering you can do what my husband does to remember his coumidin(blood thinner) to prevent blood clots. We put a dry erasse board by our refrigerator. On it we wrote. Ray, don't forget your pills.
We also use it for a lot of other things we need to remember now. It works great....and he doesn't forget his pills..

I have been using Ortho-TriCyclen pills for 9+ years and have never had any problems. My husband and I have been together for 9 years and it has worked for me the entire time. No weight gain, my cramps are almost non-existent and the best thing about it - it's only $9/month at Wal-Mart - without insurance or any kind of prescription plan. As far as remembering to take it every day, here's what I do. I keep it right on my night stand next to the bed and the alarm clock. I take it right before bed everynight when I turn on the alarm. After our son was born, I switched to ortho tri cyclen lo for several years and I really liked it. It gives you a lower dose of hormones at certain times of the month and increases at other times. That seemed to work better for me. I went off it last fall to conceive our second child.

I was on birth control pills for 6 years and I was switched to numerous brands because of side effects. Every woman is going to have a different reaction to birth control pills. Some women have no side effects at all...but you might have one side effect or few. They are not cheap and you do have to remember to take them at about the same time every day. I often forgot and that is not making your birth control reliable. Why not use condoms? They are less expensive and no side effects for you. My sister hated the patch. It got "gummy" over a few days and would fall off anyway. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Ask her for samples of what you want to try before you actually get a Rx because every pill is so different for every person. I was able to get 3 months before I got my Rx. I use Yaz and can't say enough good things about it! i don't mind pills at all because I keep them next to my multi vitamin that I take faithfully. I keep them both next to my jewlery box and take them at night before I shower. I go to take my jewlery off and there they are. I get no periods and I have actually continued to lose weight while on it. I much perfer the pill over getting anything "inserted", I try to avoid that when I can! Going to the OBGYN only once a year unless pregnant is a goal of mine! Good luck.

I've always been on the pill - so I don't have any advice on other types. I don't have insurance, and my pills were costing about $60 a ____@____.com before my annual exam in April, a light bulb went off in my head while I
was picking up a prescription. I got the "list" from the pharmacist (at Walmart) and took it with me to the Dr. I asked her if there would be any problems with switching to the pill that was on the list since it was less $. Her response was "of course, why didn't you call me before ???? I never thought of that, I'm so sorry!" I switched to the one on the list - and I'm sorry the name escapes me at this moment - and I'm at work so I can't just run to the night stand and look at it - but it only costs $9 for the monthly supply. I've had no problems with it. Good luck!

I use Seasonale (I think a generic version of it). It's nice to be able to control your cycle so that it's only 4 times a year.

I really liked using the Nuvaring. Ive used pills & IUD before & hated them, but Nuvaring was so easy & I had no side effects. Its was a little pricey but your insurance may cover it.

N....obviously, ask your GYN...but I had good luck with Ortho Novum 777. Remember each woman reacts differently. My only suggestion and MANY may disagree here, but DON'T get a pill that makes you NOT get your period for 3 months or a year, etc. THAT is not healthy for your body. You are combatting nature here and your body needs that internal cleanse as much as we need to shower. Nowadays, drug companies more than Doctors are suggesting what medications we should take...guess what, they are in the business of SALES, not HEALTH. Good luck and God Bless.

All of our bodies are different. I used Ortho Low before giving birth and when I tried to go back on it after the delivery it made me extremely sick...just like I was still sick. Now I use Loestrin and haven't had problems. Stick with it girl! I know it's hard to do the trial and error thing, but that seems to be the only way.

Just a thought, but have you though about going all natural and using a fertility awareness or natural family planning method of birth control? Given all the issues you have had with hormone based products, going all natural may be your best option. Natural family planning is as effective as the pill, without any hormones and costs nothing. I have been a happy successful NFP user for seven years and I love it. I would never go back to the pill.
