Where Do I Begin Looking for Childcare for One Day a Week?

Hi,
I just found out the daycare I wanted to use will not accept my infant for only one day a week (two was OK, but not one). I don't want to add the extra day just to take my baby there (aside from the fact it adds an additional $6K a year to the tab, I have family already in place to help) but I don't know what else to do. I like the idea of having my child socialized and not couped up at home all day (which I saw as a benefit of daycare). I just don't know if I need to find a nanny or where to even begin. I don't even know if nannies do one day a week only. I wouldn't need the help until the end of August, but I need to put my mind at ease and figure this out now. Any help, tips, websites, etc, would be appreciated! I should also mention that I am downtown in River North and would like somewhere (or someone) in the city or close to downtown.
Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks for your advice! I am going to research a little bit more but my husband's mother has offered to take our baby 3 days a week. I am just concered with the fact that she is 63 and also watches my toddler nephew on her days she's not with our son. She's excited about it though, but I will still keep my eyes open and follow up on your suggestions. Thanks so much for your help!!

Hey H.,

I would look for a Stay at home mom who would like to make a little extra money to help you out. That way your child will get some socialization, but you won't necessarily have to pay more than you need to. Also, keep looking for small home daycares. I run my own small home daycare in the city, but no longer accept children so young! Let me know if I can help in any other way or give you more advice. Check out craigs list...lot's of Stay at home mommies wanting to help!

Well, the baby won't care about socialization with other babies until he's around six months old, and he can get socialization through things you do with him like playdates and classes anyway. Probably the easiest solution right now might be finding a nanny, as you mentioned. I've had good luck (believe it or not) through Craigslist, and other parents I know have said the same thing. You might be able to find a student or someone who also needs just a few hours of work, or maybe a mother with kids who is able to watch a baby too. Good luck!
