Where Can I Find Disposable Art Smocks?

Hi, mamas! My daughter's birthday party is in a couple of weeks, and she is having a "decorate your own cake" party. So, since there will be kids from ages 1-6, I'd like to have some things available for the younger kids to cover up with. Colored icing stains horribly! But I don't want to spend money on real art smocks. Do you know of anywhere that I can find disposable ones? And price is important, so cheap would be nice too! Thanks, mamas!

What can I do next?

What you want are $1 plastic rain ponchos. Cut the adult ones to fit.

Alternatively... Garbage bags with holes cut for head & arms.

Happy decorating!!!
And as a mom whose kid comes back stained all the time, THANKS!!! Yay! Minimized stains! (there will always be ONE kid, at least, that the laws of gravity work differently for... Or who intentionally gets stuff on them.)

My kids used their dad's old T shirts or old dress shirts turned backwards so their fronts were covered. Most people have one or two of these laying around the house. You can ask kids' parents to bring one for each child to the party, and you can have a couple extra in case someone forgets.

I'd go to Goodwill or a yard sale and find some goofy looking shirts to put on the kids.

I would say cut garbage bags or some old t-shirts that you have laying around.

You can't get much cheaper than that! They work just as well as real ones. Have fun :)

I say go to the thrift store and buy a few cheap button up shirts...

OR

What about garbage bags with holes cut out?

~If nothing else you could ask the parents to bring an old shirt or to send them in clothes that can get ruined?

You could get cheap pillowcases, cut holes for the head and arms, and use them as smocks. The kids could also decorate the pillowcases themselves as a small side project while they wait for everyone to arrive (with markers or glitter glue, etc). And they can take home their decorated pillowcase/smocks as part of the take home gift.

I have seen mens dress shirts put on backward and buttoned. They work really well.

Oriental Trading has aprons: http://www.orientaltrading.com/api/search?Ntt=apron. $16 for a dozen, or $4.25 each for nicer ones.

I have also seen aprons at the Dollar Store.

I had an art party for my daughter and I used colored youth t-shirts from Michaels and Hobby Lobby that matched the colors for her party. I got them when they were 50% off, so they were about $1.75 a shirt.

Try Blick's, which is an art store online. Got the hint from an art teacher.

We just did a "paint your own plate" party for my 3 yr old. I included $1 aprons from Dollar Tree in their "goody bag." They're just a hard/starchy/rough cloth, but it did just fine for keeping the stuff off their clothes....

Go to a thrift store and buy ugly long sleeve men's shirts. Put them on the kids backwards and roll up the sleeves.

Have fun!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUR DAUGHTER!!!!

What I would do? I would go to Michael's or the Dollar store and buy plastic table clothes then use one of my cooking aprons as the "trace" and trace them out there.

While at the Dollar store I would find out if they have plastic ones - I'm surprised at what I find at dollar stores sometimes - now that people are starting to purchase stuff for the school year - you might find them!!!

I'd second the garbage bag idea. They're only 1-6, I'm sure they won't know the difference. Also, let the Moms know so they don't send them in their best party dress and then it gets stained.

Check IKEA - At least for the younger kids there are smock/long sleeve bibs that come two in a pack for $5 and they are nice!
