We had a play date set up for my four year old for this morning...All of us(me plus two kids) were going over for a park/picnic lunch.
On my way home from dropping my oldest off at school....The mom called me to tell me she was gonna need to meet later because her nephew(who she is raising)was sick at school and she needed to go get him.
After really debating on saying anything to her, I told her to call me when she got home with him and let me know how he was doing. That if he was SICK SICK I was gonna pass on getting together today.
My reasoning behind it is sort of selfish...but not really...My youngest is being tested tomorrow for alot of stuff...One being for a spot Prek Class. Him getting in is not the issue...I dont want him getting sick right before school starts for him.
So here is my cross road with this now....She just got back to me letting me know he has no fever...just has had runs.....and they think it could be from what he ate for dinner...
She understands if I dont want to comes till....but said I could still bring my 4 year old and the kids could still play....OR we could just reschedule for another time(this does seem like the best option....but getting our schedules together is really hard today was the first time since June we both had an open morning....totally free).
What would you do?
I am a germ spazz...I am trying to get pass that though...so I am trying to convince my brain if he goes it doesnt mean he will get sick too:)
Ok...We rescheduled....and for the kids sake we got a date on the books...and it is Tuesday..We are gonna swap..She takes my four year old in the after noon...I take them after my youngest is done with Speech Therapy...and I take them to our Mcknight with the Teachers...Perfect solution!!

I wouldn't the runs is considered a don't take the kids to school for a reason. if anyone in my house gets the runs i am in cleaning overdrive cause it typically leads to something nasty!
I'd just graciously say something to the effect of: "Oh, let's just get together when everyone is feeling up to par, no worries."
Reschedule is my vote.
at our pre-school, parents are asked not to bring in children with diarea or a fever so as not to get the others sick. If the child has the runs, I might reschedule...
Reschedule.
This does not seem like something to fuss about. Nobody wants a four year old with the runs.

If you are a germ spaz you are not going to enjoy it and if she happens to get sick you will just be more spastic next time! I would reschedule with a firm date. Not just some time inthe future. That way it isnt another 6 months before yall get together.
I would absolutely reschedule. I take NO chances with exposure to stomach bugs. It's just a play date. It can always be rescheduled.
I'd reschedule. I know exposure to germs helps childrens immune systems get stronger but they get exposed enough to our modern everyday lives. It is hard when things line up and don't go as planned.
Personally, and I'm not a big germ phobe. I wouldn't go. You don't have to have a fever to be contagious. Alot of viruses never produce a fever, that doesn't mean you can't catch it. I'd reschedule.

I'm with you - I would say thanks but we'll reschedule. You don't really know what that was and don't want it if he's contagious. I will tell our friends symptoms and let them choose to bring their son to play or not and they do the same for me. Diarrhea would be a show stopper because that's something I'd keep her home for and I don't need to be chasing another kid while mine had gastric problems.
I would reschedule. Any rational mom would understand your wanting to cautious. I'd say that if she freaked out over it, she's probably not someone you want to be dealing with on a regular basis.
Diahrrea is awful. I would pass and re-schedule. Stuffy nose, clear mucus etc ok-- at the end of a cold etc. But flu/vomit/diahrrea etc.---is a no-no in my book. I wouldn't go. Do it another time

Frankly, I'm surprised SHE didn't tell you she needed to reschedule. Too sick to be in school means too sick for playdate. Maybe she doesn't want to be the one to let you down by waiting to let you be the one to suggest postponing. No matter, I would definitely reschedule.
I's cancel the date and keep my kids home. It doesn't matter what the other child has; little kids share everything.
