Help! My husband and I live in Plano and we have a babysitter for the FIRST time on New Year's Eve since our daughter was born. We'd love to do something fun - live music, some food, maybe dancing, but casual and NOT the club scene. We're not too familiar with the area and have NO CLUE where to go. Can you help?? We have been to Obzeet in North Dallas and that was awesome, but it doesn't look like they have anything going on NYE.

Mamas that get out with your husbands now and then, I need your help!

This isn't exactly what you are describing, but for a really fun experience, I can highly recommend Pocket Sandwich Theatre. This will be the third New Years Eve in a row that my husband and I have spent at PST. It is a VERY casual dinner theatre. On New Years they have a dinner buffet; beer, wine, or soda; a very funny - usually silly popcorn tossing melodrama where you - the audience - gets to throw popcorn at the actors and your friends and neighbors; then after the show some light hearted comedy routine will take you into the New Year. Also included is a champagne toast, and funny hats and noise makers. Everything is included.

Check out their website: http://www.pocketsandwich.com

If the popcorn tossing melodramas seem just a little too silly for your liking, check back with them in 2009 - they have regular comedies (without popcorn) throughout the year. They use a lot of local writers, and my husband and I have never been to a show that we didn't enjoy.

Well, we have alot in common! My husband is an IT geek, and we have not gone out on NYE since our son was born. (He'll be 3 Jan 20) My brother checked a few places around town. Most were more than I wanted to pay. We decided on a place in Irving called Cool River. Check out their website. NYE party not listed in details on website but we called and got info. They will have a band, and you can get pictures of what the place looks like from the website. It's not like a club, more like a big restaurant/bar. Hope you find somewhere fun! Happy New Year!

The Gaylord Texan Hotel is having something with dinner and dancing. I'm not sure how casual it is though, but it sounds like fun.

I'm glad to see this post!! We have most always celebrated at home and it is our 20th anniversary this year! Our 14 yr old always has had friends over. I always make prime rib or something great for dinner...

Yesterday.....daughter was invited to a sleepover party and we are thinking what do we do.......

We are into the club scene. We love live music, dj's, dancing. We know exactly what to do on weekends because we go on date night weekly. We enjoy Loft 610, the now closed Martini Park was a favorite, Memphis in Addison. I'm checking into some of these today to see what kind of parties they are hosting. Worst case....we'll go to Fox Grille and watch some sports and celebrate there. They usually have a DJ around as well.

I am checking out the websites now. We prefer not to be too far from our house, especially on a holiday like this because of all the people on the road driving. TOO risky.

We are not interested in staying over at a hotel because hubby is on the road a lot and in hotels often plus we have 3 dogs at home which would need a pet sitter.

Thanks for the post and I look forward to seeing replies.

We are going to the Bass Hall to see a show. That may be a little far for you.
