What Is the Best Potty Training Toilet for a Boy

You know, I bought a cool potty chair for my son when he was around 1-year old. It played music, had a llittle book it came with and everything. When he was actually ready to start sitting on the potty consistently (18-months old), he was more interested in the potty books I read to him and the reward chart I had made for him. The potty chart was a great success, he didn't really pay attention to the potty chair and it's bells and whistles, in fact, he wanted to use the "real" potty more than the one I bought.

I think a reward system (like a potty chart) would be a better focus for success!! My son loved putting stickers on the chart, even at 18- to 20-months.

I bought the kind that sits on the floor and can be used as a step stool. He loves to use it because he can sit down on it without help and then pull it over to the sink to wash his hands. The only problem now is that he only wants to use that potty and not the big toilet (which is fine if we're at home!).

Hi S., I work with children age 24-36 months and I have been actively potty training children for 7 years, including my own. Working in a school setting, the only option for the children is the regular toilet that everyone uses. When you child does become potty learned, it will be necessary for him to feel comfortable on a regular, adult sized toilet, as you will not always have the convenience of the fun and fancy kiddie potty seats in public places or at other people's houses. It is the best way to teach them...the real world style. Good Luck!!

Ditto on Robyn M's suggestion on the built in one in the regular toilet.

We got the seat for the normal toilet that has a built in toddler seat and my son loves it... also means you don't have to switch from floor potty to big potty. You can get it at Target - here is the link. We have had it for a year now and it is still very sturdy.

I bought my son one that sings, has a fake flusher and a fake toilet paper roll. Now I wish I hadn’t! He LOVES it, AS - A - TOY! He has used it a few times, put it's really not helping him train any faster. In fact, I feel it may be causing him to take even longer. If I had it to do over, I'd just buy the kind that goes directly on the "Big" potty that we use, and get a stool that can be used for the potty and the sink. In the end it's less expensive, and is going to be useful to him longer. The one we bought was $35. Once we train him to use that one, we’re going to have to RE-train him on the “big” potty and we had to buy him a stool for the sink anyway. Save your time and money and just train him once.

This is the best seat for little boys. The guad doesn't come off very easy. Plus it comes in a plastic package that you can keep to put it in for when you're out and about. My son loved to sit on the potty chair like a regular chair but when it came to using it he wanted nothing to do with it.

I have 3 sons (one still in diapers) and we didn't use a potty seat. It was easier for them to straddle the toilet and less messy than using a potty seat/chair. Plus, it was easier with the public restrooms... They don't get afraid of the public toilets and have less accidents if they didn't need any transitions.... But of course, this is just what we did.... Plus it's FREE!!! Hee hee! Happy training!!!!
