What Do I Do???

I have the opportunity to stay at home (money would be tight but doable). I have been teaching first grade at the same school, in the same room, for six years. I have two children, a three year old and a year old. I could switch school districts and teach closer to home (right now I teach 30 miles away) or I could stay where I'm at with awesome administration. I'm so lost!!!

So What Happened?

I decided to stay at the same school and teach, at least for this next year. We are going to try and save some money. Thank you for all of the responces

I had a similar situation. I worked in Phx for an attorney for six years. The commute to and from got too much when my older kids started school. I was so frustrated that I found an attorney in Mesa doing practically the same thing. As it turned out his way of doing things was complete different than I was used to. I thought I was being hired for my experience and knowledge. I'm still not sure why I was hired but after 8 months it just wasn't worth the aggrevation. My last day will be 4/30. Money will be tight but my sanity and being able to spend time with my 3 kids is well worth any financial sacrifice. I will feel better knowing that I am raising my kids the way I want to and not how someone else thinks they should be raised.

T. you have to do what is right for you and your family. I see that you love your current job, as for me it was the opposite. I was in a job that I was not to fond with and the hours were crazy and it was a long drive. Eventhough I love working with the people there, I ended up spending very little time with my newborn son. I decided to move closer to home doing a different position with the same company, part time. That made all the difference. I was able to balance my work and life much better. With the birth of my daughter I made the decision to be a stay at home mom. I don't regret a second of it. Eventhough we might be tight on money, we have made drastic decisions to cut cost which I know will benefit us in the long run. I plan to go back to work part time when my kids are in school. Again T. this is a decision that you have to do that will be best for you and your family. By switching over to a closer school you will be able to spend more time with your family. I am sure you will do fine in any school that you transfer too. Best of Luck!

Don't feel lost. Right now i have the same chance to do the same thing. I know we would be financially stable if i did quit my job but the more i thought about it, I love my job, the people i work with, and i consider it my mommy time. I bet if you really think about it, you know what you want to do-trust your instinct and go from there. I hope this helps some. If you need to talk let me know. :)

For us... I came to Albuquerque for work and my wife transfered with in her company to Albuquerque from Denver. From personal experience, Heidi is quick to say that to work with people you like is a heck of a lot better than transferring and taking your chances. But we are also quick to say that if you stay home, you don't have to deal with anyone - but who you like. :)

Staying home takes a big adjustment. First you're nervous but excited, then bored, then guilty and so on. If you decide to stay at home and would be interested in a home run business - drop us a line. Got 10 minutes? We can show you how Heidi affords to stay at home.

Hi T.,
I had a choice between working, or sacrificing some material things to become a stay at home mom. I sacrificed. After thinking about Day Care and how much it costs now a days, plus not to mention someone else raising your child for 8 hours a day, I knew I wanted to stay at home and be the one to raise my boy. And of course my husband too. It's tough sometimes financially, but worth it. Just think about it and write down the pros and cons of working and staying home and make the decision that is best for you. Everything will work out. :-) Best wishes,G.

Hi T.!

I was in your same situation. I also taught 1st grade. Loved it. Love the staff, the school, everything. I would send my daughter to a babysitter. Each time we were back from track break I would just cry when I left her. She was also learning things that I wasn't teaching her. Not all bad but I wanted to be the one to teach her. I was pregnant with my 2nd daughter and I decided that I needed to be with both of them. I didn't want to miss out any more with either of them. I have quit. Money is tight, but I'm opening my own preschool this next year (because I love teaching and my daughters can be with me learning) But I decided that I can teach still, but I want to teach them.

You need to just find out what is most important to you. I'm a religious person too, so I also prayed about it. And I know that this is the best thing for me to do. And I have to full support of my husband.

Good Luck!

A teacher is a great gift. A good teacher is an awsome gift. I don't believe it matters where you teach, as long as you teach. My Grandmother was a 3rd grade teacher for 31 years at the same school. She taught me alot about teaching. There are very few teacher with a real ability to reach children. If you have that ability, I feel it is one's duty to share this wonderful gift. I'm sure you will make the right choice for you. I do hope you will contenue to teach. Thank you for your service to so many children.

I have a 3 1/2 year old and a 1 year old and have been fortunate enough to stay at home with them for the past year. Money has been tight, but what I missed the most was adult interaction and being able to get out of the house on a daily basis. Also, I found my self esteem lacking because I didn't have to "dress up". I have started a business with Mary Kay, and couldn't have been more fortunate to come across it. It gives me the adult interaction, the reason to "dress up", and an overwhelming positive atmosphere. If you are going to stay at home, I would definately consider doing something "extra curricular". Even better when you get to choose when/if you want to work.

T.,

If you choose to stay home with your kids, then I have a home based business that you might want to give a try. It is just basically helping people out that do not have health or dental/vision/prescription/chiropractic benefits. It would be offering them all of these dicounted benefits at a resonable cost. Please let me know if you might be interested in giving it a shot. If you do and it doesn't work out, you don't have to continue.

Thanks,
L.
