What Can I Do to Make My Hair Grow

I just got my hair cut (not by my usual stylist--long story). Anyways, she cut a SHORT layer in my hair and I hate it! My hair is naturally curly and the layer makes my hair poof out like no other! I can straighten it but is not feasible for every day b/c it is SO think & curly and takes so long. My question is, is there anything I can take to make my hair grow? I am in a wedding in Sept & want them to be able to do something with it. Yikes!

What can I do next?

well, there is no miracle hair growth system that I have heard of in my 14 years of hairdressing, but you can try prenatal vitamins. I find that with layers that have been cut too short thinning those layers out helps blend them and makes it better until it grows out. good luck and be glad its not a bad tattoo!

Start taking vitamins prenatal ones over the counter since I doubt if your not pregnant you'll be able to get a RX for them, and I swear when I need my hair to grow I use Pantene ProV and in just a few months my hair is where I want it to be.I feel you when you get a bad haircut or to short and not what you wanted I get my haircut different everytime because I hate the same cut but it never stays for long my hair grows to fast to begin with.

The best way my hair grows quickly is to sweat with a hard consistant work out. Usually, when I work out my scalp sweats first thus saturating my entire head with sweat. I think the overactive sweat glands stimulates the hair folicles to grow the hair. It works for me, and like you, I just got a bad hair cut but it is quickly growing out because I am working out and sweating.
Hope this works.

How To Make My Hair Grow Faster

In short, no pun intended, you can't. Putting pregnancy and illness aside, hair pretty much grows at a maximum rate of half an inch per month no matter what you do. A little faster in the summer than in the winter.

Of all the hair questions that we receive at the Hairstyles Catalog, questions regarding the rate of hair growth is by far the number one question. Many people write to us with remedies that they have heard about that will make their hair grow faster; from washing their hair with eggs, to cutting their hair during a new moon. This is what we call, "Hair Voodoo". There is not an inch of truth to any of these remedies.

Hair is a fairly exact science called trichology and there is not much that we do not know about hair structure, chemistry and growth. Most of the Hair Voodoo out there dates back before the onset of modern science. All sorts of conclusions were drawn from what seemed like reasonable observation, but was more often than not just pure conjecture based on coincidence.

Although there is nothing that you can do to make your hair grow faster with current technology, there are a number of things that may actually slow the process such as; a poor hair care regimen, poor diet, illness, medication, male and female pattern hair loss, and emotional stress.

Some of these things don't actually affect the growth rate per se, but they affect the hairs' health and unhealthy hair will probably not grow to its fullest potential. Besides regular shampooing and conditioning with good quality products, the only other thing that you can really do is take an inexpensive daily multi vitamin such as Centrum or even Flintstones. Don't waste your money on super vitamins. Zinc and Biotin in particular seem to be good for hair and are both found in the above recommendations. Unless you are pregnant or very ill with cancer or the like, your body only requires so many vitamins per day and simply flushes out the excess. In other words, you can't put twenty gallons in a ten gallon tank.

I frequently hear of people taking pre natal pills to make their hair grow faster, even men. The reason that an expecting mother's hair may grow slower or faster has to do with hormonal activity and not the pills. So please, stop doing that.

Well, there it is. You may not like the answer, but that is the scientific facts of the matter. If you still insist on buying into the Hair Voodoo or the thousands of snake oil pitch men out there ready to separate you from your money, well, you know the expression.

So, short of waiting, you still have other options to get you through a wedding looking decent. I will do my best to lie out some of your options below:

*Deal with the shorter hair and simply straightening it will make it longer if it is naturally curly.

* Talk to your regular hair stylist about styling your hair for the wedding as your hair is regrowing.

* Wear a wig

* Wear Hair Extensions (but exercise caution with extensions). There are many drawbacks to the use of hair extensions.

Hi T.. SO sorry to hear that--I myself have very curly hair and have had many a bad cut from a stylist treating me like any other straight-haired gal. I would suggest accessories--especially if it's for a wedding you can get away with some sparkly clips or something. I would focus on changing your style (side-swept bangs or something??) and/or getting some heavier product to help with the poof.

Check out the website http://naturallycurly.com to help you identify the type of curly hair you have and find product recommendations. Best advice I've seen for dealing with frizz is wash less often (just rinse or "wash" with conditioner every other time), use less harsh or even sulfate-free shampoo when you do wash, and make sure you're using good conditioning products and no alcohol based products. Best of luck with the growing out!

Hi T.,

I have very curly, thick hair also. I cannot cut layers in it or, like you, it will just poof out. I decided to get my hair chemically straightened. Basically, they just perm it with regular perm solution, but they do not rod it. Once the perm soluction in in my hair, they comb it continuously for about 15-25 minutes. It gets washed, and then the neutralizer is squirted on. Once everything is rinsed out, boom! My hair is straight! I love it. I have had it this way for almost 6 years now, and I will never go back to curly/frizz. The nice thing is if I allow my hair to dry naturally, it has just enough wave in it that it really looks cute. I get this process done at JC Penney about every 6 months. It costs right at $120.00. Some stylists have tried to get me to do the Japanese straightening or the Chi straightening, and the cost for those are over $500.00! I just stick to the straight perm and get fabulous results. I would try that and see if it works for you. Otherwise, you are just going to have to let time take care of it.

Good luck!

J.

You can try taking Biotin (sp), it's found with the vitimens at your local store. My Aunt had cancer and this is was was suggested to her to take this. It's also great for nails. Even if it dosen't make it grow faster, it does help with the quality of the hair/nails. But it is suppose to help hair grow. Good luck!

I also have VERY thick and VERY curly hair. I'd suggest using hairbands, clips, barrettes, etc.

And as others have said, go back to that stylist or someone else, and they may be able to help.

NOTHING will make your hair grow faster. It grows at a rate of 1/2" per month, on average. But you CAN use a nice shampoo and conditioner and use accessories to get you past this stage.
