Weird Illness

My son (4) has been waking up for the last 2 weeks every night throwing up. My daughter (2)has also been throwing up but probably only 8 of the 14 nights. It is really weird, the other symptoms have been a little diarrhea (my son only), nausea (which is not all the time) and loss of appetite. They both appear to be perfectly healthy by day but every night they wake up between the hours of 11:00 and 4:00, throw up and go back to sleep as if nothing happened. They do not have fever. I have seen my pediatrician and he has referred me to a gastro-intestinal doc but I couldn't get in until Aug 1. Lot of help that does. Anyway, I prefer to go the holistic route anyway, so if anyone has experienced this or has any advice please help. The only thing that has changed for them is about two weeks ago we started playing in our sandbox again. The sandbox has a cover on it so cat feces is not an issue.

Please help, if anyone has a similar story or any advice I would greatly appreciate it. We are sleep deprived and ready for our kids to feel well.

Thanks
L.

I agree with kate, if ur doctor isnt willing to help u out sooner then find someone else. Or call up the gastro doctor and let them know that you need something a little more sooner than 3 months from now. If you put forth a little effort in arguing ur point and give them a little bite in the butt they will try to please you. I have to do that anytime I'm dealing with things like wic for my baby. Sometimes you just have to get a little dirty to get what you want. And its ur children who are suffering as well as you so put some of that frustration in ur vioce when demanding a sooner appt.

L.,

have you changed laundry detergent? fabric softener? baby shampoo? soap or lotion? perhaps a sunscreen? Kids absorb toxins much faster than adults thru their skin. Since it's happening in the bed it could possibly be a reaction to the toxins that are in major brands. I market (not sell) a line of non-toxic products and would be happy to show it to you with NO obligation and tell you why you should not shop for household consumables from the stores. You would be amazed at the reduction of ADHD, asthma, allergies, digestive problems, sleep problems and skin problems by getting the toxins out of your home. Email me or call my cell ###-###-####. Is it worth a try? C.

My almost 3 year old had the same thing a couple months ago. It only lasted a week and she didn't have a fever either. It was the exact same symptoms. She'd eat normally during the day and wake up at 2:00 a.m. throwing everything up. My pediatrician gave her a medication for nausea and she took it before bed twice and after that, she was fine. I don't know what it was and neither did our pediatrician, but you should get a different doctor who will be more helpful.

I really urge you to check with another doctor. There are so many things it could be (treatable) that there is no way to know what approach to take. It could be anything from food allergies to some bacteria in a food to a virus. I would not wait until August to find out. If your doctor can not get you in with the gastro sooner see another doctor because it is definetly possible to get in quickly. Did your doctor do blood work? If not I would request it. Be a squeaky wheel and don't worry what they think. I have practiced law for over 10 years and I would never let one of my clients wait like that to see me or a least give them some answers. If you are concerned then you shouldn't have to wait that long for answers.
Good luck and feel free to e-mail me if you want. ____@____.com.

Sorry to hear about this... I think you should look at enviromental factors... If you just put new sand in the sand box some sands can have particles that can make kids sick. I know my youngest son had an asthma attack almost everytime ( sometimes right away and sometimes later that night) he plays with the sand... but there are sands out there... they are specially ( that make sure there are no toxins or mirco dust particles) made for kids sand boxes... so you might want to change the sand out and try another brand. Good luck and let us know what happens!

I agree with what many others have said. Find a new doctor who wants to find out what's happening.

Could they be eating the sand? Try other activities besides playing in the sandbox for a few days to see if the problem resolves itself.

A gastro-intesinologist can be busy however, in a situation like this a good doctor will get you in within a few days. I am telling you this from experience. I haven't dealt with anyone in Georgia so i am not much help there but you can call your pediatrician and request a list of doctors that they can refer you to.

Good Luck

I've NEVER been told by my doctors office /aff. My kids couldn't be seen for several months. My 4 year old had to be took the the ER Tuesday he broke his wrist. I had to call the sports med. at harbin clinic Wednesday morning we were saw Thursday at 7:45am. They put him in a cast we go back in 2 week for a check up the 2 week after ththat for them to take it off. If I were you I would find a different doctor. Your kids are way to important to wait for an Aug. appointment.

Wow, that's really weird. Matthew, my 4 year old threw up a lot when he was little and Meagan (1) never has thrown up much unless she has a virus. Anyway, have you started using a new product? Maybe an air freshener or something in their rooms? Do you give them vitamins before they go to bed? Has an exterminator sprayed in their rooms? I know they're all shots in the dark sorry I'm not much help. When Meagan gets a virus it sticks with her a couple weeks. Maybe that's what it is.
