Very Sore Breasts During Pregnancy

Hey Mamas,
I am having an issue with my breasts being so sore this pregnancy. Especially when I take off my bra and especially around the nipple area. Man, it hurts! I have a two year old who is all elbows and knees at times and I can just come unglued when he hits me in that area. I have never really had this symptom even with my cycles and didn't have it when I was carrying my son. Is there anything I can do to help with the pain? Thanks for the help.

Oh...I remember that! Mine only lasted a couple of months early in my pregnancy, but I feel your pain. I would take a Tylenol on those days when I just couldn't deal with it, but alternating warm and cool packs were my main remedy of choice.

I also slept in a stretchy "sleep" bra to give some extra support--I was a D when I got pregnant and they rapidly expanded beyond that. I double layered sports bras during the days when I was going to be especially active--Champion (and I am sure others) have one with a knitted band instead of elastic in a casing which I find less binding. I got mine at Target for around $15.

Sorry, i can't offer you any advice, but i can sympathize w/ you. I'm in the EXACT same situation! i too have a 2 year old that loves to climb on me and throw her little arms around and tends to hit me....which makes me scream out in pain at times it hurts so bad. i wasn't like this at all when i was pregnant w/ my little girl. this pregnancy is much worse! w/ my first pregnancy i ran till i was 5 months pregnant, this time i stopped at around 6 weeks b/c my boobs couldn't take all the bouncing!
Good luck w/ everything!!!

I agree with the PP. When I was pg and while I was nursing, I used to wear a sleep bra. I believe I got mine through www.breakoutbras.com because of the free shipping and discounts.

I know that there are cooling gel pads that are good for when you are sore during nursing, they may work now as well. I believe it is either Medela or Lansinoh that has pads that you can reuse and they go in either the fridge or freezer. There are also gel pads that are out there by Gerber and by Playtex. I would HIGHLY recommend the Gerber over the other one. Gerber's are thicker and easier to move around when needed. Playtex is super thin, extra sticky and just an overall P.I.T.A.

I agree with the others about the sleep bra. I got one with my second child and loved it. Just that little extra support really helped. I took Tylenol on the really sore days. My oldest was 2 at the time I was pregnant with the second one and understand whole heartily about the all arms and legs. I used warm wash cloths in the evening after my son went to bed to help with the pain. It really helped.

Hopefully with all of suggestions (all are good) you get some relief or at least reach a level of tolerance.

If it gets to bad, you might want to talk to your OB about it to see if there is anything they can do to help.
