Vacuum Recommendations - Greenlawn,NY

I know others have said, but I have to also! GET A DYSON! Even if you dont have animals, get the "Ball". It is expensive, but worth every penny. I have had mine for almost 3 years and it works every bit as good as it did the first day. Best of luck!

Get a dyson! Best money I ever spent! we have a dyson DC17 animal, with a shepard and 2 kids, this thing is great...picks up everything, never smells, easy to use...Well worth the money!

My Grandmother gave me her Miele when she was no longer able to vacuum. I LOVE it. It's a canister type. The suction on it is great. And we have really beaten it up- have had it fixed, and its not expensive. I will continue to have someone fix it because I LOVE it.

I had central vac you will love it its easy and light. Do your homework check on the internet for the best company and brands word of mouth is great too. I had an electo lux I never had a problem with it.

I have central vac and wouldn't have anything else; I have had mine for 19 years now and only had to have the power head fixed once due to my own fault. It is great, your canister is, in my case, in the basement and gets emptied once every couple of weeks to a month depending on if the dogs and cats are shedding, etc. It is light weight, all you are pulling around is the hose and power nozzle or hose and an attachment. I have outlets in my main hallway, master bedroom, and dining room so that when I finish with one area of the house I unplug it and go to another. The hose hangs on the door of my linen closet and I have the tools there too. Another thing is it picks up so much more than a standard vacuum. If you go on-line there is a place in MA that sells them at a really good price and if you husband is handy he can install it himself. We had a Eureka central vacuum installed a number of years ago.
I absolutely love it. We have three flights here and it is so easy just to tote the tube and plug it into the wall and go on with the cleaning. Mind you when we had it done, they break through the walls to get the vac installed. It was a massive clean up and repairing the walls but I dear say it was well worth it all. The other thing is-if you want to reduce the noise--have the main canister installed in the garage.

The Oreck XL is the best vac, I have ever used and I've used lots of them over the years! It's also the lightest one as well.

Love, love, love my Dyson. cleans like a dream and great with animal hair. I love it!

I liked the Dyson a lot, but it was a bit too heavy for me... So I got the Oreck. Very, very lightweight. I remembered we used to use them when I was a housekeeper. I have no complaints with the Oreck. In fact, I love them. Easy too maneuver, pick up well, store well, and are just great.
I've used central vacs as well from when I used to clean houses, and they work well, but the hoses used to drive me crazy... I prefer dealing with a cord, then the hose. Just my personal preference.

If you're looking for a strong powered, long lasting, LIGHT vacuum, the Oreck is a great choice in my opinion. :)

I used to go through vaccuums like crazy....we live on a farm, have 2 large hairy golden retreivers, 1 cat, 3 kids
(8 yo, 6 yo, 4 yo)...actually 4 kids if you count my husband! =) About 5 years ago, I bought a Dyson. Then had second thoughts because it was expensive so I went on Amazon and read the reviews. After all the positive comments, I decided to open the box and use it...it was awesome how well it worked. And it is still working today! Over the years, I have told lots of friends and family about how great my Dyson is. Many of them bought their own and love it as much as I do. (The Dyson really "sucks" - get it? =-)) One piece of advice - just buy the basic Dyson. The other models are all the same, you just get different attachments. I read once that the guy who invented the Dyson actually tried to sell the technology to Hoover but they told him they weren't interested because they would lose money on their vaccuum bag sales. (The Dyson doesn't use bags..) Now they are all trying to copy the technology. Anyway, hope this helped. Good Luck!

There was a great central vac system I was looking at that wasn't to expensive. It cost about $1500 for the unit. That included 4 outlets, 30ft of hosing and vacuum head, pipes the vacuum system. Depending on the size of your house you may not need much more then that. Also it was a wet/dry vac. So you spill a gallon of milk on the floor you can just vacuum it up. Or any spill for that matter. I have a Bissell Lift off Revolution for pets. I love it. It's pretty light. And you can remove the canister and use it kind of like a big dust buster that makes it easier to do stairs.

We have a Kenmore based upon Consumer Reports ranking--it was #1 and was a fairly reasonable price.

I have the Dyson as well, but I actually really don't like it. It's the version that is supposed to be so good for animal hair, dander, dust, etc. But it was very, very expensive...and not as good as I expected. And the attachments aren't so great, either. After spending all that money though, I'm stuck with it!

I have central vac in my house and absolutely love it. It's much easier to handle and quick. I vacuum the main areas( kitchen and family room and entry) every day. I sotre it in the stairway heading into the basement. It beats lugging a heavy vacuum around. Funny, before I got it, I couln't understand what the big deal was, now I'd never go back to a regular vacuum.

We have a Dyson and it works great. I was hesitant to go bagless, but it's very easy to empty and it's great not having to replace vacuum bags. Dyson has a bunch of different models, we have the standard bright yellow one but I know there's a lightweight version too.

I have the Oreck XL it only weights 8 lbs and in my opinion is just as good as the Dyson. My friend has the Dyson and borrowed mine to compare and she said mine was much easier to push. It is not bagless which I prefer and it comes with a canister vacumn for the steps that works great. It can be purchased on QVC or they have a website. It is not cheap but it is worth every penny.

I have a Dyson and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Absolutely wonderful. Not light, but really a great vac. My house also has a central vac system, and I like that a lot too. It's convenient, very lightweight to use because it is just the hose, and works great. I don't know what brand it is, or how much it cost because it was in the house before we bought it, but I totally recommend having one.

I have to agree with the majority here regarding the Dyson. Best vacuum EVER! I have the DC14 and I've had it for almost 4 years.
Its a little on the heavy side, but its very user friendly. Its never given me any trouble.
My son is allergic to EVERYTHING. The washable airfilter in the vacuum is great for keeping the air clean.

I reccommend the Dyson. I've had the Dyson Animal DC14 now, for 2 years and absolutely love it. I also have 3 children, a dog and a cat. I vacume every single day.

I highly recommend the Dyson. I haven't used the newer mini version, but I can definitely speak to the suction on the older version. (I've had mine for about 4 years.) A friend (also a new M.) and I both recommended it to one of the volunteers who come into our office on a weekly basis, and she bought it. Just this past Thursday she came in and reported that she couldn't believe how much stuff she picked up in rooms that she had just had professionally steam-cleaned.

Our house has central vac, but once I moved with the Dyson, we've never gone back...good luck!

Just get a Hoover and be done with it. Hoovers have a habit of outlasting thier bodies. I had a canister floor model I bought back in the late 60s....The problem is that I can't get the bags anymore and the hinge rusted, but the motor still works and it still sucks up good. Then I got an upright back in 1991...It still works, but the plastic housing broke. I was using it all tied together, so my hubby fixed it with removable bolts. I now use it for my second floor, because my sister got me a new Hoover last Christmas. I did have an Electorlux back in the 80s, but that thing didn't last long. The motor burns up easily. All you have to do is to run over a shoelace. The Hoover could care less. I don't know how many shoeslaces I've run over with it by accident.

One would think having a Central Vac would be ideal but my experience with them hasn't been good. It lacks in suction even on the same floor it's cannster hangs and gets worse on the upper floors....therefore it doesn't do a deep cleaning...not to mention triping over the hose while vacing the steps or bringing the hose to the outlets on each floor.
I love my Kenmore cannster 12.0 amps so much I have two of them, one for upstairs the other for downstairs...therefore I don't have to carry them up or down the steps...even when vacing the steps, each cannster stays on the landing, so I'm safe.. Easy to handle, not heavy, and they do a good job for me....

The Dyson is expensive, but you'll never need another vacuum. It is a little heavier than I expected, but I have the Dyson animal (we have 2 dogs) and it's absolutely AMAZING. I had central vac in my old house and my husband thought it was great, but he didn't have to lug the extrememly long hose (which was bulky) to each level of the house (we had a split level).

I have a hoover wind tunnel. It received the best ratings from consumer reports in its price range. When we moved into our new house I didn't have a chance to have it professionally cleaned so my brother let me borrow his Dyson.

I almost cried when I had to return it to him. It really does suck! ;) Man, that thing sucked a fishing line that was behind the drywall right out! I hate using my hoover now, and I am hoping it dies a horrible death soon so I can get a dyson. I really do not like bagless, but the performance of a dyson is such that I am willing to tolerate the bagless.

I know nothing about Kirby's or Miele's or cental vacs.
