Hi Everyone,

We are trying to plan a family vacation for a week in August with our son, who will be 17 months then. I will also be 8 months pregnant by that time so I don't want to be in the car for very long:) Ideally we would love a beach vacation, but it would be a long drive (13 hours) from where would be driving. However, I am wondering if anyone else out there as traveled long distances this pregnant in the car with a toddler in the summer? or if they are any other great family friendly vacation spots in midwest, canada etc? Thanks!

Have you heard of Pokagon State Park in Indiana? They have a resort there--Potawatomi Inn that is very family friendly. Our kids were too young to do any of the kids activities (craft room, arcade, etc) but they have a small beach on a lake that was perfect for our needs. We live in Jackson, and it was less than a 2 hour drive to get there--worked perfectly to leave at naptime and get there in time to check in and have some free time before dinner. They have a dining room and cafe available for eating, but there are also restaurants nearby. Their website is www.IndianaInns.com. Just an FYI, they are also open during the winter for sledding. We haven't gone there in winter yet, but it was a very cool place and we're looking forward to going back there again sometime.

What about Michigan Adventure? It's on the western side of the state and you got Lake Michigan too. Same thing with Ludington. There's also up north - Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Dunes, etc. Or you could check out one of the water parks near Cedar Point/Sandusky OH, on Lake Erie.

I used to live in Midland, MI, and we went to Little Traverse Lake every summer. The water there is always so cold, and I think that would be so nice during the summer while you'll be that pregnant. Also, since it's a lake, it has a beach-type area, but you don't have to worry about waves knocking over your little one. Good luck, and I hope you find where you want to go!
