So as we are all here for advice and as a small community I will continue to post questions that I feel you can all help with and the updates to them...

My sister set up an appointment for the DR. today. She figured she could wait through the day which is fine it doesnt hurt horribly bad. We did rule back in a broken bone though because we found after icing the area that there is a lump like a bone fragment under the skin where it hurts.I was pushing for the ER as was her husband with no avail... "whats the point of an er visit when it doesnt hurt that bad and I can pay $770 less tomorrow going to the clinic" Ok fine, you win was all I could say to her!

Now I know we are not doctors but what are they going to do considering she can still move it, it doesnt "hurt like a broken bone"? Can she push for x- rays? I do know its getting worse because she is babying it a little more with each hour!

ETA if it is broken would her inbound telemarketing... (types a lot!) understand if she couldnt work? So confused, I have never broken a bone other than my toes!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies... Thinking about it now I think she has pain problems... When she was 15 she ?cut? her leg with a hatchet... she didnt feel it. She just told our mother that she was bleeding... We will see. She and I both went to work today. I will be taking the boys (she has 3 plus my 1) while she gets taken care of.

ETA- she is 28... Sorry bout the "teenager posting" but i have never delt with broken/ sprained bones or joints... So yeah, I'm confused! Our whole family is " strong boned" I dont remember any of us EVER having a cast or even a brace other than my ankles because they roll!

Final Update!!!!!! It is not broke, The dr did do x ray but cannot figure out what is wrong. They are assuming that it is just pulled/ strained muscles. There is a calcium deposit however that will get "consumed by the body" shortly like the rest of hers do. I personally dont trust the Dr with this becuase of the pain she is in however we will wait to see the outcome before getting a 2nd opinion. Hopefully saving her time and money if he is right. Her 4 and 6 year old are happy to know mommy can wrestle again lol and I am no longer the jungle gym!!!

Just because she can move it does not mean it's not broken. Also, they can tell a lot from an x-ray other than breaks such as calcium deposits, cracks (that can become breaks), etc.

Let the doctor diagnose, trust them to do their job.

Please update us after she goes to the doctor. I'll just flat out tell you that my husband could move his shoulder and IT was broken. My mother could move her wrist and IT was broken. I will reiterate that the overseas doctor who didn't take an xray of my husband's shoulder is an IDIOT. If I had been with him, I wouldn't have let my husband leave without an xray. My husband was an idiot too, but he didn't go to med school so he has SOME excuse for being an idiot. So YES, your sister should ask for an xray if the doctor doesn't recommend one. (But quite frankly, if her doctor doesn't, you know what word I would use to describe him...)

I'm sure you can tell that I'm STILL frosted that my husband walked around for 2 weeks with a misdiagnosed broken shoulder...

It's only HOURS til you all get the Dx, treatment and options from a real, live doctor. Try to be patient.
Is she home?
Are you home?
Help out with the things that might hurt her wrist today before the appt. and continue to do so as it is healing.

It just shows that your sister and the rest of your family knows nothing about broken bones or even sprains. The more you use the injured part of the body, the worse the injury is going to get. The longer she waits, the more she's using it and/or holding it incorrectly and could be making the injury worse than it would be if she just went to the effing doctor already.

She's being completely obtuse and stupid over this. She could end up with a permanent injury because she's convinced herself it's minor. If it really is minor, then it needs to be proven by an X-ray. This isn't about money. This is about making sure she doesn't end up with a disability.

How old is your sister? These seriously sound like teenager questions, but she's married?!

We can't answer what her boss will say, about an injury we don't know about with a recovery time that is unknown. If she wants xrays, then she should ask them. But asking you to ask the internet is just kinda silly.

I can't answer your question, but a family member of mine recently fell and hurt her wrist pretty badly. She didn't think it was broken (could move it) and waited a couple of days to go for x-rays.

Well it *was* broken - she had to have it re-broken, surgically operated on, and was in the hospital for 2 nights.

I'd get in there asap.

X rays are the only thing which are going to be truly determinative.
I'd keep it iced and elevated, and have her take a pain remedy.

I broke my thumb skiing. I expected it would hurt some as I fell on it, I didn't even consider that it might be broken until 3 days after the fact when the pain and swelling weren't subsiding. No long term setbacks given my delay.

Good luck to you and yours,
F. B.

I broke my arm about half way between the elbow and the wrist. I didn't really have a lot of pain. I went out and held my arm next to my body and played softball, kickball, and tag. I just didn't jostle it. I remember favoring it, that's all.

The school nurse finally called my mom and told her she thought I had a broken arm. The doc took an X-Ray and there is was. It was a thin fracture but still broken.

Broken bones are broken bones. She didnt break the muscle or the nerves. SO yes you can move a broken wrist. IF your felling bone fragments that means she has a compound fracture, in that case she is doing so much damage right now moving it around and poking at it. its un-comprehensible. IF its a bone chip that will have to come out and she may need a pin there to replace what ever she broke off. Likely its not a bone fragment or a chip because that would hurt so bad she wouldnt just be baby-ing it she would be sick with pain and she would want it looked at immediately. I would go with a guess that its fluid and granulated tissue from injury. At her age playing with her mobility in her wrist is a big risk. If its broken and she continues putting off treatment. Shes looking at severe arthritis soon. Thats no joke that hurts.

She can push for x-rays. Your the client. If shes worried I would say, TAKE an x-ray to be sure. I never trust doctors that are busy. If she feels the doctors looked at it properly, and is comfortable with what he is saying. Then take his word, if you think its broken and want to be sure, demand an x-ray

Wrists are very tricky. There are many tiny bones in the wrist and any one of them could be chipped or cracked. If a broken wrist doesn't heal right, she will have a lifetime of pain. The lump (even though it feels hard) is not likely a bone fragment, more likely is due to swelling (which can feel like a rock). That is what I had. I could move mine and it turned out to be broken, but the hard spot had nothing to do with a bone chip. Go in and ask for an exam and they will probably recommend xrays (only way to tell if a broken bone) and they will probably refer her to a specialist as well. GO TO THE SPECIALIST! My GP couldn't see the cracked bone in my wrist but sent me anyway. The specialist took some different views of the wrist and found a tiny cracked bone. They did a soft cast and then did follow up visit and xrays after the healing period to make sure it had healed correctly and that I wouldn't need surgery.

If she ends up with a soft cast she will probably still be able to type. It just really depends on her specific situation and exact injury. They told me I could continue to do any of my regular activities as long as I was not causing a lot more pain.

BTW, I also waited until I could see my regular Dr. rather than spend $$ for an emergency room visit. The first night was uncomfortable but perfectly manageable.
