Hi all,
I went in for my first ultrasound last week and found out we are having a girl. The part that wasn't as joyful, was finding out she might have a distended stomach, might being the important word. I am going in for a second ultrasound next week, so they can take a look at her stomach again and see if it is a more normal size. Has this ever happened to any of you? If it did what was the result? Thank you from an almost mom trying to stay calm.

What can I do next?

Hi H.-
My 2 pregnancies were wrought with uncertainty. I know the waiting time from test to test can be an eternity, to put it mildly. It is okay to ask the MD what the concerns would be given the difference they are seeing. Avoid researching on the internet-there is a lot of incorrect info and it will do nothing but add to any anxiety. Try not to allow yourself to play "tapes" in your head of scarey, worried "what if" thoughts. It does no good. Keep telling yourself, "this will be okay". I wish you well and try to stay peaceful.

Similar thing just happened to me too. This is my third child and is also a girl.... At my ultrasound when I had an amnio (had the amnio since my NT test came back abnormal) they thought the same thing with the stomach being too big and they didn't see it empty. So after waiting another 4 weeks we went in for another ultrasound and this time it was normal - phew! Just hang in there and trust that everything will most likely be fine. The waiting game is hard I know....but keep the faith!

Hello H.,
I don't have any experience with this, but I wanted to wish you all the best. I now have five kids but can still remember, especially during my first pregnancy, how I worried so much when I was pregnant. Try to stay positive, as hard as I know that must be!

H. the best thing for you to do is go for the second ultrasund as you indicated. If infact she has a distended stomach reseqarch it before you become upset, or stressed which at this point of your pregnancy isn't good. We all have a bit of stress, but keep within reason. I had a misread ultrasound, I prefer not to mention what I was told, but I wasted far to much time stressing in which through me into preterm labor and bed rest at 25 weeks...... Hang in there I hope I helped. M..

Hi H.,

The same thing happened to me almost 18 years ago. I was pregnant for the first time and was expecting a baby girl. When I got my results from the first ultra sound they told me that it looked like she had an distended stomach. I got worked up and thought the worse. The second ultra sound took place at an office right by Stanford Hospital. I presumed they sent me there because they specialized or had more expertise in this field. I can't remember how long it took to get the results, but when the doctor called me with the results he said everything was fine and not to worry anymore. Easier said than done.

I can only hope you have the same results as I did. I wish you the best.

P.
