They actually work. I have one. My dad had one(his broke). But so far, I haven't seen any critters and such around since I bought one.

My mom and step dad tried them a few years back when the winterized they camper instead of using the mothballs and what ever else. They had about 3 or 4 of them plugged into a 17/21 foot camper and the mice and bugs had a nice and cozy place to live while it was snowing and blowing outside!!! There were tons of baby mice born that spring which distroyed a lot of linens and bedding. And when the weather was too bad to go out for food, they dined on plastic kitchen utensiles!
So, I'd say no. They don't work!

Hi! My dad got me one from Home Depot sev yrs back for around 20 bucks, and I was surprized...Seems to work!!! Used to get palmettos in the house, due to these blasted pine trees around. Have had only 2 in about 6-7 years! Try it!

THis isn't a quick fix, but maybe more lasting. If the spiders are concentrated in an area of your home, maybe there are openings that could be sealed off with spray foam or caulk. Also, I feel like I'm vacuuming up spiders often enough. Make sure to get the corners. S.

The kind we tried made a really, really annoying beep every time they sent out an ultrasonic signal, and they only work if the critter is in direct line of sight of the device. The ultrasonic waves can't go under, around, or through objects.

I don't know about the ultrasonic repellents -I've heard mixed reviews -but I have heard that eucalyptus is a natural spider repellent. I am a total arachnaphobe, and I haven't had any spider problems where we currently live, but if I do in our new house, I am definitely going to try this.

We tried one without much help. I am not sure if it was the one we used or if they jsut don't work. I would love to know what you use that is non-toxic. I had a friend that gave my mother some stuff that was made from mostly orange peels. I wish I knew the name. She swore by it!
Have you tried googling non-toxic pest control, or gone to the health food store?
Good for you to be concerned and aware!!!! I would also be cautious of any medicine that you use! I use homeopathy. It does not harm their little kidneys and other organs!
Also, do not burn paraffin wax candles! I make all natural, 100% soy candles. Paraffin is the left over sludge from the bottom of a barrel of oil. It has all the nasty stuff diesel fuel has!!!
Check out my site if you are interested! You can make your own for pennies on the dollar! It is a great fundraiser or home based business as well!

My family tried them when a lovely rat couple found their way in our home in Texas one winter. We also didn't want to break out the poison - for so many reasons - so we ordered the ultrasonic pest repellents. By the time we got them in the mail, plugged them in, and figured out they were not working (two to three weeks) we had twenty rats in our attic. I thank God for a husband who had the stomach to handle the job of putting the D-Con in the walls and removing the bodies. That said, rats and spiders are two very different deals. Rats steal food and spread disease. Spiders co-exist peacefully with people and control insects. They're God's and Mother Nature's perfect pest control. So unless you're talking about black widow's or brown recluses, I say keep your home poison free.
