I am in the process of starting up a home day care, and would like to get licensed. I am unsure of how to start this process. If anyone has any suggestions as to the first step(s) I should take, or any other helpful information/recommendations, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in adavance!! J.

DCFS will give you all the info and requirements. I takes about 6-9 months for it all to be done and until you get your home visits. The YWCA in Glen Ellyn can help with the process too. They also offer trainings to stay current in workshop hours.

DCFS is who does the licensing. YWCA Resource and Referral is also a great help. I just finished licensing in July. I first went to a YWCA informational meeting that was really helpful, as far as licensing information and the business end of it. Then I asked for a licensing packet from DCFS to begin the process. It takes about 3 months to complete. I absolutely love doing home day care now. It is a lot of fun! Other home day care providers also helped me immensely with getting all the forms ready and answering questions I had along the way. Best wishes to you!!

YMCA I was going to do it through them but then had my children and life got away from me but some day will go that route myself. They give you the complete run down even how you have to set up your house.
Have fun

Hi J.,

I just wanted to introduce myself because I am in the same boat as you! I've been babysitting for several families for the past 6 months and am looking to take a more professional approach. I've been advised to contact DCFS for the informational packet and am scheduled for an informational session in April(I believe throuh YWCA?) Anyhow, just thought it may be nice to stay in touch and see if we cannot help each other out! I live in the city(Ukranian Village) how about you? I'll send you more info if I recieve more tips!

Best to you!

Call D.C.F.S they will send you a packet w/ all the info you'll need. It takes time but you can also take 3 kids w/out being licensed. Good luck with this.
You'll find daycare very rewarding. I do and I have no little ones at home except my 14 yr old. But the rewards of having kids with me and to be able to help out other parents are great.
If you need more info you can e-mail me back.

Have fun with this
