I want to transition my twins to actual beds, but I have two problems. One they do great right now sleeping and am having a hard time justifying this - but, I hear them bumping into the sides all the time. Two, I have two babies in one room! That is two twin beds (toddler beds will be as small as the cribs - they are long babies!!). Does anyone have any experience in this bed buying or any advice!!!!??

What can I do next?

What you do it put the twin size beds up against different walls. So one head is pointing at the others toes. I have three boys in one room. Hope it helps.

If you want them to get out of the "crib size" beds you could get a trundle bed (bunk beds might be a bit too much). that way during the day you can have the extra room but at night they could have a bigger bed... do they share a crib now?? if so one twin bed might be big enough.. I know several kids who always sleep together (even though they have their own rooms) and mine do it too...

If I could have done it over again, I would have waited as long as possible (even until age 3) before moving my daughter into a big girl bed. For us, it was a harder transition than potty training! She was just too immature to handle the big girl bed (I even had to change the door handle to lock on the other side, for her saftey, she would sneek out of her room).
You may have a different situation, but I thought I would share my experience. Good luck to you!

I have twin boys who are going to be 5 in July, I bought 2 twin beds with the drawers under the bed when they were 2 1/2 and I put the beds together and bought the side rails. When we moved to Alabama last year I seperated the beds onto either side of the room with the side rails on one side and a wall on the other. I put their cloths in their drawers so they can pick out their own outfits and they love it.

Good Luck have a great day!

My twins NEVER slept well together, so I've always had 2 beds. When they went to twin beds, it was definitely tight. There was just enough room to walk between the beds and between one bed and the closet. If I could have, I would have lined the beds up against the wall.

If they are still sleeping well, even though they are bumping into the sides, I would keep them in the cribs as long as they aren't climbing out. I have large twins also, and that is why I had to take them out of their cribs...they were so tall I was afraid they were going to fall over the side even with the mattress all the way down.

Good luck!

Try 2 twin or double sized mattresses on the floor... ds has slept on a 3-4 in foam mat since we got him out of his crib (we added an extra quilted mattress pad on top)
He has learned to stay on it- and once we move he will be getting an actual matress with some sort of bed frame (want to do a train bed out of plywood :D) They will roll off but you just come in and check and reposition them... there are things out there that look like bolsters that attach around the mattress and box the kids in. I put a gate up until he realized if he stayed in his own bed and fell asleep the gate would not be neccessary. (IE if he got out, the gate went up pronto. one chance)
Another thing you will have to do is remove the toys from the room and toddler proof it so they cannot climb up onto something and jump off- hurting themselves. We really have nothing in ds's room but a bed... use the closet as a dresser. There was room for a ball pit but we have taken it down and moved it to TN with other stuff.

If space is an issue, I second the trundle idea, bigger beds at night, space saver in the day time. Bunk beds are also an idea, but I know that even at 4 my son is too wild in his sleep to even think about putting him that far off of the ground, so I don't know if that would work for you or not, but the trundle thing is great!

dont spend to much money and don't get cheap matt. i just bought my son a used bed and then new mat. i bought the $98 special and i tried to sleep on the bed and it was bad, (i'm 200#) and blaine is 29# i know that makes a dif. but i would just spend the extra money and get a better mat. i used the crip as a tod. bed untill i could get him in his new room (baby #2 on the way) for me i put the crib mat. on the floor if he falls out, so far he has stayed in. hope this helps
