Can you please jolt down any experiences you've had with tooth decay toothaches and how to make eating and sleeping a little more tolerable for my 4 year old daughter until we can get into the dentist? I will accept any and all, ideas, here say, especially facts from your own experiences with it. Thank you ladies!!!

I'm wondering how long it will be before you're able to get in to see the dentist. For reasons other moms have told you, you do not want to wait. If you can't afford a dentist the county has a clinic for which you pay on a sliding scale. If you have a dental school close by their rates are low.

Does your dentist have after hours?
I personally would ask about that because the last thing you want is for your daughter to develop some type of infection in her body thanks to the decay.

At 4, I am not sure what she could use for relief because some pain relievers are a bit strong for your age. I've heard oil of cloves helps but no idea if it is true.

How fast can you get to the Dentist... If not a special appointment today, hopefully early in the morning. Also call your pedi and ask as well.

Best of luck..

Welcome to mamapedia!!

There is a dentist on on "J" (if you are really in Lancaster) that has weekend and emergency hours..

How do you know for a fact this is tooth decay? She's VERY young to be suffering from tooth decay. I would give my child some motrin and make sure she is rinsing her mouth regularly with Listerine or something similar to keep bacteria from spreading...

Are you positive it's from decay that had been previously identified? Is it possible it's from some other dental issue? There is a lot you can do over time to improve gum health as well as overall immunity - a friend's daughter had a lot of dental problems until she added a safe supplement. Now she's seen so much relief and she's been free of other problems such as colds, flu, etc. - it's an overall immunity system boost and an anti-inflammatory. My dentist has seen tremendous improvement in my gums as well. But nothing is going to turn her around overnight so that's just info for the future. I think, until Monday, you should contact the dentist's after-hours number. Another option would be talking to the pharmacist but if the pain is truly from decay and is deep in the gums, a topical solution (including ice) isn't going to help much.

I'd hate to wait, but to respect your question: have her brush, gargle, and go to bed. There really is no remedy. Ora Gel?

Normal tooth decay doesn't hurt at first. If her teeth hurt, there is more than likely a serious problem going on, especially if this is soemthing keeping her up at night.

I have many, many fillings in my mouth. This is not something I'm proud of, but it's true. I also have several crowns/caps (is there a difference?) because I have gotten to the point on several teeth where there was more filling left than tooth.

The only two times in my life (I'm 41) I've ever had a tooth ache were when it was actually an abscess.

I've lost fillings before and had to wait a week or more before getting them replaced. Still, I've never had a toothache other than the two abscesses.

I think you need to get her in soon.

Clove oil does help as does garlic. Peroxide rinse (if she knows not to swallow)... but yeah make an appointment asap.
