i have every intention of having my 9 m/o off of her bottle at one year, as i have done with the other 2. apparently i made the mistake of mentioning this in front of the MIL! she says that's too early. i never had any problems with the others weaning at 1 year. i think she's just wacky. any input from the Mamas?

What can I do next?

I started weaning my 2 year old when she was about 10.5 months thinking it would be really hard, but it wasn't. I say you do what you wanna do. You're the mommy!

I never gave my son a bottle after he turned one, we had no problems, started him on a sippy cup a few weeks before.

I say its your child and you do whats right for her. You can always get a sippy cup (nuby) it has a rubber nipple like a bottle, you can start now putting water or formula in it now. My son was strictly breastfed but when i gave him water it was in a sippycup (nuby) he did great and hes been on a sippy since he was 6mths old. Along with nursing. He nursed from birth-16 1/2mths.

Hi Meg -
My MIL pretty much acted the same way.. I wish they would mind their own business sometimes.. anywho. the night before my sons 1st birthday I gave him his very last bottle and told him (which he probably didnt understand me)
"ok this is the last bottle your gonna be a big boy tomorrow" The next day he woke up and I put Milk in a sippy cup he watched Sesame Street and was so happy didnt even cry for a bottle. It was so extreamly easy to do! I am amazed! Also to try to get her used to a sippy cup and then she will realize that she doesnt want the bottle she wants what is IN the bottle!

Good Luck! Hope it all works out for you! Have a great Day!
S.

My kids range in age from 2 to 24 and they were all broke around 12 months. I think I was a little more lenient with the older two, I was young. But, my 13 year old got a sippy from about 9 or 10 months (when he could hold it) at one year, we put only water in his bottle and anything he wanted in his sippy. 2 days and the bottle was gone. My 2 year old was breast and bottle fed. At her 12 month checkup (2 weeks before her birthday) my doc told me to cold turkey breast and bottles, due to sleep issues. She had also had a sippy cup for a couple of months. We went home that day and packed all bottles up and gave only sippy cup. NEVER had a problem, not even with stopping the breast feeding.

It is ultimately your child, your call.
