You may find this website helpful http://www.doe.mass.edu/sped/parents.html A child with ADHD would fall under the Section 504 category. You may also want to check out the link for finding an advocate. I have a son with ADHD and while most school systems are great with helping in elementary school, they fall off once they hit middle and high school.

I am an experienced mother in this field. "You" have to tell them what your child needs based on his deficiencies. You know your child more than anyone else. Keep on top of things every step of the way in his school years. It's a hard task, but will pay off big when he graduates. Some teachers do more than others. Keep on them. Give him plenty of directions. Writing them down for him to check off a great one. More than all of it.....Plan to sit with him to give him your devoted time every night when he gets in bed for 5 to 10 minutes to discuss his day. Then tell him you love him. This is every night, not some nights.

I would also recommend taking him to a Naturopathic Doctor that can test his brain neurotransmitter levels. They can give him natural supplements to regulate his moods and ADD.
Call the NeuroScience Lab at 1-888-342-7272. Tell them you are looking for a doctor near you that uses their testing.
Their testing is usually covered by insurance, but some of the fees from the doctor's visit are not always. You can get a list of a few and check. Good luck!

You should talk to your pedi? Is your pedi a developmental pedi? If not you might want to find one. A nurologist or pedi will give the parents each 1 questionier to fill out the school will get one to a Connors scale. Based on the answers givin a dignosis will be given. Mot docs do not like to put kids on ADHD meds till age 7. We did the ADHD diet for my son till age 6 then went to meds but only during school. I do not medacate on weekends or school vacations at all. If you get a dignosis of adhd talk to your school about an ed plan. L.

Schools can't diagnose a child with ADHD. Only your pediatrician can. They can also determine if your child is too young to make a determination of ADHD. Some pediatrician's don't want to diagnose a young child with ADHD because many of the symptoms are ones that are natural for younger children like impulsiveness and high activity levels. The tests are not black and white like a blood test but are based on behaviors observed by parents, care providers and teachers.

Children diagnosed with ADHD are eligible for certain changes and supports based on special education law. If your child is diagnosed with ADHD, you should ask for an evaluation from the school based on this diagnosis. They will determine what he or she needs and work with you to develop and implement a plan.

you could startwith his pediatrician.have a consult with him and they usually dx them depending on the behavior of the child and a form is usually given to the parents and one to the schools to fill out as well.
