Teething... - Round Rock,TX

My DD is working on those first teeth... she was really fussy for a while, but now she is REALLY hurting. :'( I have been giving her teething tablets, but I don't think they are quite strong enough sometimes. Can I give her baby tylenol for teething? I got the dosage information from her pediatrician when she got her shots, so I know how much is safe to give her. Is it safe to mix with the tablets? I use the Hylands homeopathic ones, not sure if that makes a difference. I wouldn't use tylenol all the time, just for when the tablets don't help her. I do give her teethers and frozen washcloths to chow down on, but I hate to see her hurt so much. I have heard mixed reviews on teething gels, so any recommendations or opinions on those are welcome. I don't really like the idea of "drugging" my baby... but I like the idea of her in pain even less.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Sorry, no motrin yet. she is 4 1/2 months old, and I was told NO motrin until 6 months...

There are two things that helped my daughter besides the baby tylenol...she loved her vibrating teether and she loved to have her gums cleaned. Both of these are relatively inexpensive. Using the brush to clean the gums helps the teeth break through. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Yes, you can use Tylenol and Hyland Teething tablets together. Here is a Tylenol & Motrin(Ibuprofen) dosage chart:

I used Infant Motrin with my kids because it reduced the swelling as well and relieving the pain. You should not use Motrin until after 6 months of age. You can also use it with Hyland Teething Tablets.

Definitely give her the Tylenol! It will help--especially before bedtime.

Hi Christina
I don't know your medication in America,I live in Ireland. I used to give my son the homeopathic meds but as soon as it got bad I would give pain relief meds for children.
I didn't want to see him in pain so I gave the meds.
It's like if you had a toothache, how would you feel without pain relief, give meds to her if she needs it.
Best of luck
B.

We used a vibrating teether and when necessary, Orajel.

Hyland teething tablets and tylenol are safe together. Give her some tylenol, it will help for the pain. Have you tried orajel? My baby didn't like it, but some babies love the numbing effect it has.
I gave my baby frozen waffles to gnaw on, just had to watch her with it. You could also do the old "dark liquor" trick. Have you also tried the mesh feeders with frozen fruit or ice cubes? My baby loved those, the mesh would rub the gums and the frozen ice would make them ease the swelling.
I am not sure how old yoru baby is, so some of my suggestions won't work for young babies. Good Luck and hang in there!

The ONLY thing that helped my daughter's pain when she was teething was ibuprofen (Motrin - but get the generic since Motrin was recently recalled). I did teething tablets, Orajel, mesh teethers, Tylenol, you name it. Only the ibuprofen helped. Check with your pedi on the dosage. Also, watch out on the Orajel. If you don't get it directly on the gums, they swallow it and it can interfere with their swallowing (numbs the throat). I didn't want to "drug" my baby either, but it was the only thing that worked. When I told our pedi, he said he hears that quite frequently from moms.

You are right about the Hylands teething tablets, they are made from very low potency homeopathic remedies which typically don't have any long lasting effects. Your health food store would probably sell a higher potency Chamomilla that would give longer lasting relief and avoid any side effects or suppressive treatment (motrin and tylenol).
