Hi moms,
It is that time of year and I was preparing what I should get for me daughters second grade teacher. I had some ideas but at a jewelry party they got shot down. Any ideas or perphaps some moms who are teachers can tell me what their favorite presents have been!

What can I do next?

Lets be honest, gifts for teachers are a pain. Mugs are redundant. Candies are too much, etc. Even Christmas items with the exception of oranaments are nutty.
What I often do-many times, is go to the local dollar store preferably dollar tree and get an assortment of things-that they use, stickers for good behavior, paperclips, pencils, pens, erasers, banners, word counts, stamps, Thumbtacks, stapler, markers, white board markers, etc. while this may sound UHG!!! I can tell you it's truly appreciated. Teachers aren't paid enough and still have to go into their pocket year after year to get supplies for their students. Does the school refund them-absolutely not due to budget reason. I have done this over time and have gotten lovely reponses from the kids and notes from the teachers themselves. For I was a teacher at one time.

Gift certificates to places such as Starbucks, Book stores, Wawa, Panera Bread, Trader Joe's, Joanne Fabric, Michael's Craft Store etc are always appreciated!
How about a set of movie tickets in a basket with popcorn, movie size candy bars, etc.?
www.restaurant.com has great 1/2 price gift certificates for many local restaurants. You can also check out BJ's Warehouse (or Sam's Club) for Chocolate Covered pretzels, Biscotti, etc and get creative with coffe or tea, etc.

you could give her some tissues, stickers, even books for her / his classroom... teachers spend quite a bit of money out of thier own pocket for class room supplies such as books. Maybe if your child has a favorite character like Curious George or Baby Bear then you could get several books from the series for the classroom... I have seen personalized tote bags (you know the canvas ones you can get in a craft store and paint) or mugs etc, but how many canvas totes does one teacher need...

good luck

Our school has a book fair where the library sells new books, its at this time every year and the teachers can make up a wish lists of books. One year I went and bought several and gave them as a gift...the teacher loved them. It wasn't very expensive and it was something she wanted and could use.

Good luck!

Hi R.,

I'm a Mary Kay Consultant and last year I gave my youngest son
Teacher a Satin Hands Set.

In my opinion I think teachers deserve to be given something that they can pamper themselves , for example a nice spa set or Body wash and nice lotion to match.

If you would like to contact me I could put together a nice little papmpering basket for you at reasonable cost.

If that would be of interest to you but that would be a nice gift for a teacher.

Gift cards to book stores or local teacher stores- Becker is the one that's around me. Don't get knick-nacks- they just clutter up our classrooms and we feel SOOOOOOOOOO guilty when we get them and don't know what to do with them.
Thanks for thinking of us!!!

As a teacher I agree with some of the responses. Items for the classroom are great. We never have enough hand sanitizer and tissues. One of my parents on the first day of school brought colorful name tags for the children. Thanks for asking.

Hi R.,
I just go to Bath n Body Works, pick up some Anti-Bacterial hand soap, maybe hand sanitizer, and throgh in some lotion. They smell great, and it kills germs. How can you go wrong! What teacher wouldn't want that?!?
Hope this helped!

I always got my kids teachers $10 gift certificates to WaWa, Blockbusters, or book stores. And they always wrote back telling me that it was a great gift.

Have you considered perhaps a small candle warmer and a small jar candle. Or perhaps a nice book (or gift card for book store)or some bath products.

I'm a college instructor and those are my favorites to receive.

Hi R.,
I think the nicest gifts I received were the ones that were handmade or homemade. How about some handmade chocolate covered pretzels or cookies? Very inexpensive and so delicious. It doesn't have to be anything costly at all - just something that shows you care.

I also have a couple websites where I make a lot of products perfect for teachers. The proceeds of http://cherryberry.etsy.com all go to charity, and my other website is http://thepurplepear.com.

Best of luck to you whatever you decide! I'm sure the teacher will LOVE whatever you give her. :) I used to be a Kindergarten teacher too.
