We just did this too! We mixed the milk and formula in the bottle, but then gave them only milk in their sippy cups. We have certain sippies (gerber soft spouts) we put milk in and others we use for water or juice. Good luck!

You can to help in the transition, but try whole milk cold turkey and see what happens. I did and my son had no problem. He loves it!

I have a son that just turned one and we are in this process right now. His doctor told us to start with 1 oz. whole milk and 7 oz. formula for every bottle for a whole day. Then the next day give 2oz. whole milk and 6oz of formula in every bottle for that day. And so on for a week untill he is on staight milk. The doctor said that this helps the baby get used to the taste easier.

I was also wondering what kind of work you do from home?

Yes you can. Just do 50/50, if he will drink it and tolerates it keep increasing amt. of milk until it's all milk. I just dealt with this! Mine did great!

Absolutely, C.. I did this with both of my kids and I think it's a great way to transition to milk. I never did any special equations (2 oz. formula per 6 oz. milk, or whatever) I just filled the bottle up with the milk and scooped in the powdered formula, just like I did when it was water...well, maybe one scoop less. You might want to start out warming up the milk a little bit, since your son is probably used to at least room temp bottles. Slowly over time you can get him used to the cold stuff. Keep in mind that you have to shake the bottle a bit more to dissolve the formula if the liquid is cold.

After a while, you can completely cut out the formula scoops, but don't feel rushed. Formula has all kinds of great vitamins that can only be a GOOD thing for your little man. And you didn't mention this, but if getting rid of the bottle is a worry for you, it shouldn't be. There is no REAL reason to lose the bottle at this point, other than the idea that it will be easier now than later. I say, let them have the bottle if that's what they want. It's called CHOOSING YOUR BATTLES and a bottle is perfectly harmless. With my kids, I started giving them a sippy cup for water during the day, but still gave them their formula/milk in a bottle. It was the ONLY way I could get them to drink as much of it as they were supposed to. When my son turned two, I got rid of the bottle completely with no problems.

That is the best way to do it. If your child gets 8 oz in a bottle, but 6 formula and 2 oz of whole milk, and then slowly increase, to 4 oz formula and 4 oz of milk, then 2 oz of formula and 6 oz of whole milk, until you are at the amount of whole milk. I did it in about 1 week changes....did the first set for a week, and then the next set, etc.

When I started giving my daughter whole milk the doctor suggested that I give her 1/4 whole milk the rest formula and each week increase the milk and decrease the form. My daughter has stomache problems and he thought this may help, because sometimes just switching can cause stomache issues in come children.

good luck,

M.

Yes you sure can! Our Ped. Told us to do it with our first child and we are now doing it with our second. She gets 8oz per feeding and I just do 6 of formula and 2 of milk and then every week I take away another 2 oz of formula and add two of the whole milk! I also am getting her to use a sippy cup at one or two of her feedings althought she is much more resistant then our son was!

Yes, but don't do it in a bottle. This is the best time to transition to a cup, and having a "new" liquid in a new cup is the easiest way. We called it his "special cup." Good luck!
