My daughter is 3 and this summer is the first time she has freckles on her nose. Even though she naturally has a dark olive skin tone like me and tans very easily, I still lather her up with sunscreen before playing outside. She also has dry skin. So, not only did she develop a few freckles on her nose, she has a spot on her chin. At first I kept thinking that I could never get her face clean in that spot. Now it looks like a really really light tan birthmark. It is probably the length of my pinky fingernail but only as wide as a playing card; so long and skinny like a line. It is not a big deal and I don't make a big deal about it. However, I'm curious to know what you all think it might be. Can birthmarks develop after birth, 3 years later? Anything you suggest I do or just leave it be until her 4 yr doctor's appointment in January? Thank you!
Sounds like a scar to me. Kids don't have to have a big accident to get them. When I was born my sister stuck her head in my bassinett and I scratched her under her eye, still has the tiny scar she's 46 now. She could have scrartched herself and with exposure to the sun, even with SPF it made it darker. I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe get some Mederma, the scar cream and see if it'll fade a little.
Are you sure she didn't get scratched there and it is just the difference in coloration from the scar? My daughter definitely has a darker complexion than me and that is exactly what her scars look like. When she isn't sum exposed, I can't even see it but after some sun it is more apparent.
Hi S.! I agree with some of the other mamas about it being a scar. I was bit in the face by a dog at age 14 and it left a scar. If I went out in the sun for a few years after that, it would darken. It would fade along with the rest of my skin as a tan or sunburn would fade. It no longer does this, but that is what could be on your daughter's chin. Even if it were just a small little cat scratch or minor cut, it could have still left a nearly invisible scar that only darkens in the sun. Good luck! I know it is hard to find weird little spots on our kiddos that we don't know what they are or where they came from.
It could just be the way her pigment is, or there could have been a day you didn't get the sunscreen on as evenly as what you thought. I wouldn't worry about it and I don't think the Dr. will be either.
hello, freckles can develop at any age in life. As for the birthmark, i know i discovered a birthmark on my wrist when i was 16, and it only shows up in the summer, regardless of how much sunscreen i use.
I agree with Luci - its a scar.
I think this age is about the time most kids will start to get freckles if they're going to have them, or around 5 years old for sure. I don't know about the scar or birthmark, but just wanted to say to please not be negative about the freckles as so many are. I grew up with them, still have them, and they were something I was teased about a lot. I know your daughter is darker complexion and probably will only have a few but just don't be negative about them.
