Tag Reading System and Wii Fit

I am thinking about getting my son a tag reading system for his 3rd birthday. I am trying to decide between the regular tag system and the tag Junior. My son loves to read and will sit by himself and look at books for about an hour. He is way beyond the short board book stage and like longer picture books with some depth. The tag jr books look a bit young for him, but I'm worried that he won't be able to work the regular tag system. Any thoughts? Will the tag Jr controller continue work with the older tag books or would I need to buy the new system in a year?

Also, we got a wii for christmas. I am interested in the wii fit games and board. Anyone out there use it? Love it? Hate it? Got bored too fast? Etc.

Thanks mamas!

My kids have owned the Tag reader system for about 1.5 yrs and they love it! Even my 7 yr old still likes to look at the books. My youngest will be 3 this month and he's just now getting into it...we got him the Cars book for it for Christmas and he asks to play with it all the time. My middle daughter (almost 5) loves all the Princess books and it is helping her w/ her early reading. So all in all we love it!

We have the Wii Fit and it's great! It helped me to kick-start losing my baby weight almost 2 yrs ago and now I'm down 30 lbs! I admit that I don't use it often now, but I do other Wii fitness games and they're keeping me in shape. Right now I'm doing 'My Fitness Coach' and it's awesome! Thinking of getting 'My Fitness Coach 2' since I love the first one so much. Good luck!!

Wii Fit is fun, but not a workout. I have used EA Active Sports - LOVED it and have lost 20# using it. Too much down time in Wii Fit in my opinion and EA Active gives you a well-rounded routine to do every day - and makes me sweat! I also just bought the Biggest Loser Wii game - seems like it'll be a good one once I get going with it.

My son got the tag system for his 4th birthday and he loves it. His sister is 2, She can't play the games because she doesn't get the instructions just yet, but she will let it read her a story. So if it were me I'd go with the regular tag system, especially if he already has an avid love of books. The junior one only works with the junior books, they are not interchangeable.

go for the regular tag. my son got that before he turned 3 and he loved it, and still loves it - and hes 4 now.
they are awesome. the only problem that i have had with them is that the majority of books i could find in the store were for girls, or were characters my son has no interest in (we do NOT do spongebob, or really, dora/diego either - we just dont have those channels and i dont like SB anyway. LOL)

so it was harder to find books he would enjoy and or like. but he does have the i spy, toy story, tractor tipping and cat in the hat and he does seem to like those. looking online you can find more book selections, it is just the 'in store' supplies that seem to literally be geared more for little girls than little boys, and thats a shame.
anyway, go for it. they are awesome. my son loves it.

Definitely go for the regular tag system! My daughter is not quite 3, and is also really into books. I had the same thoughts and concerns about the Jr system that you do. We gave the regular tag reader to her for Christmas (so she's only had it for a week), and she really likes it. At first she just put the reader "pen" on the pictures to hear the sound effects, but now that we've read the book to her a few times, she also likes to have the system read to her, too (and she still likes the sound effects). It might help to read the book(s) to your son verbally before you show him how the reader works so that he gets that the tag is "reading" the same story to him. Have fun!

We bought the Tag system for my son when he was 4 and my daughter had just turned 2. She used it easily. She mostly did it on the pictures in the books... and my son would do the pictures and words. He is almost 6 now and is just now starting to do all the games that are on the pages. They love the tag. You can use the small board books with the tag, but you can not use the big books with the tag jr. So I would recommend the regular tag and then purchase the board books and regular books. Another thing I was worried about was if my daughter ripped the pages... which she did. It does still work when taped! Now that they have had the tag for a few years we have many books. The problem is they don't all "fit" on the tag. I think ours fit about 5 books. So when they want to read a book that is not on it, I have to take one off and put one on through the computer. Maybe they have improved that though.

We've had our Wii Fit for 2 years now and it's still used frequently. Ours had the original Wii Fit and we bought the new Wii Fit Plus last year. Everyone in the family likes it. I use it for exercise and my kids use it for fun. It's great in winter to help get the wiggles out and my (now) 5 year old has been able to play the games/exercises since she was 3 since there's no reading and you control things with your body. You get out of the exercises what you put into it and the free step and super hula hooping can be good cardio. If you're only looking for a great workout, this isn't the game you should get, but this is a lot of fun and provides variety.

We got my MIL a Wii and Wii Fit for Christmas (she wanted it). I played it while we were at her house over Christmas week and had a GREAT time! The Wii Fit Plus has a ton of games (balance games, ski jump, obstacle courses, snow boarding, Yoga, aerobics, etc). Now I want one!! Her Wii also came with Wii Sports which I liked a lot...Tennis and Boxing were great!

My son is 2 and I purchased the Tag Jr. It is perfect for him. You push the round "controller" on the page and it has words and phrases for the pictures and when you push on the text it reads that pages story. It is somewhat interactive as it will prompt the child to push on other items on the page such as an animal or other object related to the story. If I recall correctly the Tag pen helps sound the words out where the Jr version just reads the text. If your child is showing more interest in reading and knows his alphabet I would recommend the Tag not the Jr. From what I have heard from other mothers is that the child should know his alphabet, not just recite the alphabet but know what the letter A is. With the Jr system you need to install the software on your computer and download the books to the pen. It has limited memory so you can only download several at a time to the device. Keep that in mind. All of the Tag Jr books are available for download at their site once you purchase the software. So far my son enjoys it and he will be turneding 3 in March. My son recites the alphabet but has not yet made the association of what each letter is. My son also loves books and talking about the pictures which works well with the Jr system as you can push on pictures and the pen will talk about the picture chosen.

In regards to the Wii, I also received one for Christmas but not the board. From what I have heard there are numerous games including a kids Fit game with Dora and other Nick Jr characters that use the balance board. So even if you purchased it for the fitness aspect there are other games that use it that your children could play.

Considering the Tag ready system for our son too.
I liked the WII fit...but I really really like the Knect for the XBOX 360. I'm not much into video games. But I really like the fact that you are the controller and you don't have to hold onto anything. It's pretty cool.

My son got the tag system when he was 3 and loved it. He still uses it after a year of having it. I heard that the tag pen works on the tag jr books just not the other way around.

We like our Wii, I use the Daisy Fuentes Pilates game and it puts me through a pretty good workout.

We have a wii fit. My friend absolutely loves her...me, not so much. I find it annoying that I have to use the controller so much to move on to the next exercise...It is a lot of stopping and starting...I could never break a sweat using it. Haven't touch it in years! On the other hand I love, love, love Dance Dance Revolution for the xbox and playstation. Great workout although in the beginning I was pathetically uncoordinated so it took a good few weeks of practice before it was actually exercise.

I would say get the regular Tag system. We just bought one for our 5 yo for Christmas and he really loves it. We also have a 20 month old an she can work. Simple to use and easy to handle. He should be fine. I would watch the ads in papers for deals. I found a bunch of books before the holidays that were 1/2 price and then buy one get one for free. That made it real easy to pick up several books. Makes reading fun in another way.

We also have a Wii Fit and we all love it. I have never used the Yoga stuff much, but we all love the fitness activities and the balance games. We are competitive in my house with 4 kids, so it is always fun to see who has the best balance. Really works your mid-section also.

My daughter got Tag when she was 3 1/2 and loved it. She spends more time playing the games in the book than reading it. Her fave is the Dinosaur Roar book. She loves hearing about all the dinos at the end of the book and playing those games.

I had wii fit. I sold it after a month. For me, I just won't work out at home, no matter how fun. I need to be in a gym.
