Swingset for a Two Year old...opinions?

My son will be two in August and he loves going to the playground. I'm a thinking about getting a swingset for the backyard so I don't have to constantly drive him to the playground area but I'm not sure what type of set to get. Should I get a metal one from Walmart...OR...go for the fancy wood ones that cost an arm and a leg. Any suggestions would be great!

What can I do next?

You get what you pay for. Just be careful if you choose the cheapy ones from Walmart or wherever because they are dangerous to a 2yr old. My brother has one and each time my kids ages 2&3 try to swing on it with out us they fall flat on their face or back. The seats are slippery. I think they are geared towards older children, 5 & up perhaps.

We got our daughter one a few months ago and she LOVES it! We ended up going with the wooden fort style. They carry them at Sam's and they're fairly reasonable. But we got a really great deal on one off of Craig's List. We had to go get it and disassemble it, but we only paid $300. A coat of stain and it looks brand new!

spend the extra to get what you really want because you will have it for a long time. look for used ones to help curb the sticker shock.

As Belle said....you get what you pay for so be cautious.

We bought our first wooden set when daughter was about 2. I forget who made it but we spent about $1500 on it. My yard was always full of kids and moms and I loved the interaction it brought for my daughter (only child) and me socializing with the moms! When we built where we are now, we got one from Woodlawn. She was 5 at the time. We spent more money on it $2500. It has been great. We opted for no sand box on the bottom this time and it has a little built in table with bench. There are a lot more activities with this set as well. My daughter is 12 now and she and her friends will still go hang out and talk and i also have neighbors with little ones that will come and play on occasion.

I say go for the wooden set. We got our money's worth out of both of out sets.

We recently were in the same situation. We figured out by asking that Wal Mart is good temporarily. The expensive ones are great IF you have the money but we got the kit from Home Depot, and slowly built it with pretreated wood and stained it. Which will make it last longer. Also, we had the family chip in instead of gifts for his birthday. It made it more cost effective.
Oh and my husband whom is not so handy built it himself.
One last thing, since we built it, we can replace any piece in the future.
Good Luck!

Just to let you know- Walmart also carries the wooden sets and they're way cheaper then most. They have one for $300 that we're going to buy our son for his 2nd birthday in September. I don't think they have them in the store- you'd have to buy online and have it shipped to the store nearest you. But, it also comes with a 12 year warranty on the wood and parts. For $300- that's not bad!

I was going to get my 18 month old a cheapie until my husband convinced me that it wasn't worth spending a couple hundred now for something to last a year or two only to go and buy a wooden one at a later date. So we ended up getting a used Rainbow. It was still a little more than I'd like to spend, but it'll last his entire childood. (Not to mention the fact that it looks a whole lot nicer in our back yard!)

We got a metal swing set from Wal Mart and it fell apart with in 3 mos of getting it. It was a total waste of money and my husband just took it to the dump a few weeks ago. The slide was suppose to attach to the swing set to keep its balance but it came off and my daughter almost fell off of it and would've gotten hurt if I wasn't standing right next to her. My in laws bought it for us because it was cheap(I think they paid $100) after that happened I checked the website for that swing set and it was recalled in 2004 and Wal Mart is still selling it. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5607404

This is one of the main reason I no longer shop at a Wal Mart. Also my in laws got an earful from their son just because it was cheap doesn't mean it is a good buy.

After months of research we bought one of those expensive ones from Costco. Now we are just waiting for my dad to get back to help put it up.
