Swimming Lessons for a 6 Month Old

My little boy is now 4 months old and I am very interested in signing up for swimming lessons for when he is 6 months old. Actually, I am expecting it to be more of some Mommy and Me time in the water at this age than swimming lessons. A friend of mine did it Baltimore but I was looking for something closer to Edgewater or Annapolis.

I checked out the Riva pool but they don't have any programs until the 3 years old.

What can I do next?

K.,

There is a Kids First swimming school in Serverna Park on Richie Hwy. It is in the shopping center on the right hand side with a food lion in it. I have been in there a few times. It is a nice facility. I believe they do start a 6 or 7 months.

Severna Park swim club has mommy and me classes. I googled Spy Aquatics to find the classes when my son was younger. They are alot less expensive than most of the other mommy and me classes in the area if you are really budget concious. I still take him to swim classes over there and he's now 3 1/2.

Whatever you do, keep him swimming once he starts. I got my girl swim lessons when she was that age, but nothing since and she doesn't like getting her face wet. Meanwhile her cousin who is slightly younger swims like a fish. Get him to a pool, indoor or otherwise, whenever you can, maybe once every couple of weeks?

SportFit in Bowie offers swimming for infants, although it starts at about 8 months I think - there's a SportFit in Severna Park too, but I have never been there - I know the one in Bowie is really nice

I take my son Ian to Kids First Swim in Severna Park. He loves it. The pool has wonderful gradual steps for the older kids and starts out at 2 feet deep. They offer Mommy and Me classes in the morning at at night. They will also allow swim diapers, where as other places will not.
