Does anyone know of a swaddle blanket that REALLY works? My baby HAS to be swaddled to sleep but she is breaking out of the Halo Swaddle Blanket. She just comes right out about 5 min. after I put her in it and takes her own pacifier out of her mouth. She is waking up every hour during the night frustrated and we are both just exhausted!
Thanks! Amy.

I used the hospital blankets and did exactly what Theresa N. youtube viedo showed. I think the baby in that viedo was slightly raised. The shoulders seemed to be covered more than what was shown?

Hi Amy, like Jo, I only had one out of three who liked to be swaddled all up nice and tight. And I also used a plain old receiving blanket with the folding technique they showed me at the hospital. No knit, or stretchy fabric blanket worked. Here's a couple things I found.

Interestingly, now my kids are 20. 18. and 15, and their sleeping habits have not changed at all. The one who liked swaddling sleeps fully dressed, needs sheets and blankets tucked into the mattress. The other two sleep nearly naked all sprawled out on the mattress with no blankets, just a pillow.

HTH!

I only had one that liked to be swaddled but I always used regular receiving blankets. I learned from the nurses how to wrap him up like a sandwich and went from there. I am pretty sure you could pass him like a football so it never did come undone.

My first son HAD to be swaddled, but he's 14 now, so he was born before they started marketing swaddling blankets. Also, he liked to be swaddled for a looonnnggg time, so we had to use a big blanket. We used the technique others have mentioned, but just used a baby blanket that we had at the time. It was pretty thin; that worked best. Good luck!

Ditto the receiving blankets! But you really have to work on getting the technique down, or those arms will be out in seconds. Practice practice practice!

I would also try the miracle blanket, I have heard great things about it.

Good luck!

I swaddled 2 of my babies in the Halo blankets without any problems, and did them REALLY tightly.

I also have used the "aden + anais" line of muslin swaddle blankets. You can get them at Target and Babies R Us. They are really great because you have total control of just how tight to make the swaddle, and I've swaddled babies as old as 6 months in them.

Swaddlepods have a zipper down the middle so they are more difficult to break out of. We used one successfully with our second. Amazon sells them, I think they are made by a company called Summer Infant. Just make sure you get the right size, if its too big she will escape :-)

i highly reccommend the miracle blanket!! .. my daughter went from waking up every 2 1/2-3 hours to waking up only once throught the night or sometimes not waking up at all until morning.. i got one of those swaddlers from babys r us at my baby shower, the kind thats just like a little pouch with the velcro that holds it closed and she absolutley hated it, she would just scream until u got her out of it.. my cousins sent me the miracle blanket because it worked so well with their son who is 2months older than my daughter.. when i saw it i was like "what the heck is this thing shes not going to like this its like a straightjacket"... boy i was wrong.. its probably the best thing anyones given me!... i will say though just make sure u wrap it good.. if its loose she wiggles her little hands right out

Luna Lullaby makes a really good swaddling blanket and also puts out a DVD showing the technique. My lo loved to be swaddled and we were able to use them for a long time. He is now 2 and he still sleeps with them, just not swaddled.
