Strep Throat

My sister had a baby this weekend so my mother-in-law kept our little ones until Saturday afternoon She apparently started feeling bad Saturday night. My father-in-law just called to say she has strep throat. Ugh. I called the pediatrician to find out what the chances are thay they might catch it and what I should look for. Haven't heard back yet.
Any thoughts from you guys? I'm not quite sure what to do. My husband and I are washing sheets and sanitizing as we speak.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thanks for your responses. So far so good. I asked my mom and apparently I was pretty susceptible to strep and had my tonsils out at a young age. I'm just going to continue to keep an eye on them.
Thanks again!

symptoms are a high fever usually over 101, suddenly eating less, even their favorite foods, tummy aches, sometime vommiting, a strawberry tongue, fatigue.

And it is a big myth that babies can't get strep...trust me I know from personal experience my youngest was 3 months old when he caught strep from his brother, and I have seen it in other kids as well I am an RN

i'm surprised nobody mentioned this...i have had strep more times than i can count...for some reason i was ridiculously succeptible to it when i was a kid...and the sure sign is white spots on the tonsils. just shine a flashlight in there, you will see the white spots if they're there. good luck...i hope they don't get it.

Hi A.,

As with any other illness, universal precautions such as hand washing and avoid sharing cups and utensils is likely to prevent the spread of strep throat. However, according to medical literature, there has never ever been a documented case of Rheumatic Fever (caused by strep throat) in any child younger than age 2 even if they have tested positive for strep. I wouldn't worry much about it, and of course, if they get sick, take them to the pediatrician or family doctor and make sure they are hydrated and have no major complications. I hope this helps!

PS Or have your husband walk up and down the aisles while YOU sleep!

Well it is Ok to get things clean, but you really don't get it like that. Take extra vitamin C and lots of liquids and plenty of rest to keep your immune systems up.

Try not to worry to much I have been told by my pediatrian that children that young can not get strep throat! just give them lots of love and hope and pray they don't just get a cold from being around her! Good luck!

Really there isn't much you can do at this point. If they are going to get it they will! Hopefully not for your sake. Just watch for signs like poor appetite, not drinking much, cranky and definitely fever. If you think maybe they have some of these symptoms see if you can see in their mouths b/c you will notice how red and raw it looks in the back of the throat and might even see sores. I wish I could be more helpful but you will get through this. My daughter seems to catch everything and I panic every time but we get through it! Good Luck!

hi, i thought i might be able to give u some advise, u should not have 2 worry about strep as long as they did not share any drinks food.
