Straw Top Sippy Cup Suggestions

I have a friend in Grapevine who sells Tupperware and I just bought a set of cups that have lids with a drip proof seal for a straw. They are terrific for my accident prone almost 5 year old granddaughter. I cant tell you how many times she's accidentally knocked her or someone else's drink on to the floor.

The little juice boxes and CapriSun's are handy. I don't have problems so much with the liquid bubbling up the straw as I do with the kids squeezing them and spraying juice all over the place intentionally or unintentionally.

I think all sippy cups leak a little bit, but I have a suggestion. My son was the same way and just didn't "get it" with the sippy cups. So I tried taking the valve out of the sippy cup and putting it in his mouth for him. This of course lets the juice come out of the cup so that he knew it was in there. After a few times of this, I put the valve back in and he finally started sucking the juice out. Hope this helps and good luck!

I have experienced the same exact problem. My son went directly from breastfeeding to a straw cup. I never could get him to drink from a bottle.
We have used every kind of straw cup that we could find. The Nuby ones work the best untill he chews the silicone valve in the top. Then they leak too. I wish they made replacement straws for them. It's such a waste to throw out a perfectly good cup just because the straw is leaking.

I think at some point they all leak. We've not had the problem of them coming up the top like that, but if you can find the older style of the Playtex ones, they work better. The flip top is more fin shaped and stands up higher than the new ones with the lock tite lids. Otherwise the Munchkin brand ones aren't bad either and just as easy to clean. We both hated the Nubby. And the Foogo by Thermos is pretty good too if you can find it. That would be a good one for preschool lunchboxes.

At Walgreens they have these little Elmo or Cookie Monster character sippy cups with a straw that I really like for my 2 year old. Its probably the only one that I know that doesn't leak!! And the plus is that she LOVES Elmo. Its cute and small, it has two handles and this little slide thingy to close the rubber straw.

I have a problem with them leaking also. I have noticed they only leak if the fluid is cold and the cup is at room temp. My son is the same way. However, he is interested in the other kinds of sippy cups now. He has the idea down that you have to tilt the cup up now (most of the time), but he doesn't realize that he has to suck on it at the same time. I am trying to get him to go to a regular sippy cup and leaving out the no spill part for a while to see if it will teach him. Good luck with everything!
