We are going to be taking a flight with our 2 year old in a few weeks as well, I have some toy ideas but was wondering about apps. We don't have an ipad, but have access to one and also an android tablet so we will be taking one or the other with us. My son hasn't played with a tablet before and will only occasionally look at photos on our smartphones so it will a new experience for him. I have no idea about fun toddler apps, so what do your little ones like? My son knows his letters, colors, shapes, and is working on numbers so I'd love it if they were educational but am fine with whatever keeps him happy. I'm also cheap, and don't want to buy an app just for a trip so the cheaper (or free) the better! Thanks all!

What can I do next?

We have a Toddler Shapes app, and some number and alphabet apps. We have a few animal apps, where they touch the picture to hear the animal make its sound (lion roaring, etc). I don't buy apps for my kids - just put "free toddler app" into the search bar, and you'll find a lot of them.

The one I always recommend first is ABC music. It introduces a gazillion instruments in alphabetic order with very cool demonstrations of the music and games. It is sophisticated in content but easy enough for a two year old to use. The other cool one is Reading. Rainbow but it has a monthly fee.

We just downloaded my daughter's favorite shows, at that time it was Elmo and bypassed the apps. Turns out we didn't even need the shows as the flight conked her out.

Injini is an AWESOME app. I have the free lite version, and it has enough to keep my Dd busy.

It has puzzles, patterns, memory, pattern, find it, sheep shearing, line tracing, and balloon popping. All of them are made for a toddler's level, and get easier/ harder based on the child's performance. The lite version is limited to the third level of difficulty, which really is perfect for a 2yo. (The full version is $27!!! I would buy it if I had the money, and I rarely buy apps... That's how much I like this app.)

Other than that, Toca games are fun. My DD's favorites are Toca Doctor and Toca Kitchen.

Baby Bus apps are good too. My DD has one for numbers. Which is very easy.
