I'm in the same boat as many of the other respondents. My son had a race car bed, and it just wasn't big enough. He'd role over, bump his head/leg/etc., and wake up. We moved him to a bigger bed and he is much more comfortable. HOWEVER - when you make the transition, don't make the same mistake we did and lie with him in the big bed. That just created a whole other issue. Instead, tell him it's his big-boy bed and he should sleep in it, just as his sister sleeps in hers. Good luck!

Hi A., I'm not sure what to tell you except some kids go through this not wanting to sleep alone. One of my sons climbed into my bed until he was 7. It was not easy but we love him. He is now 26 and owns his own home. Very well adjusted. Sounds like your son has a real cool bed. Maybe you can stay with him a while until he is asleep. I sang to all 5 of mine and they always say how much they loved it. I now have 3 grandchildren and I sing to them too. Grandma Mary

Hi A.-

Do you give your son short naps in his bed? Maybe he has to get used to it. Since he's 2 I'm assuming he speaks a little? Ask him why he doesn't like his bed. You can also turn it into a game and tell him something like he will have nice dreams when he falls asleep but it has to be in his nice little racey car bed lol. The other suggestion is to just allow him to cry a bit. Kids eventually give in when they realize they are not going to get their own way. Congrats on your new baby. May God see him or her through safely.

A.,
been there done that!!! i would highly recommend getting the twin bed, the toddler bed maybe just to small and he is not comfortable. i would get the twin bed and take him shopping with you to have him pick out special sheets and blanket for it.

good luck and hope you start getting some sleep!

i started having that problem with my 2 yr old too back in Dec.. i did opt for a twin bed,, it worked! After awhile I just figured maybe he wasn't comfy on a crib mattress anymore cause I noticed it was my bed,,not the fact that I was in it. The only thing he does now that he figured out i'm ok with it.. he stumbles into my bed around 3am then he's out cold for another 3 hrs.. I would harp on him staying in his bed..but I don't always wake up until much later when I have company. Plus I figure..the snuggles will be gone soon enough so I'll take advantage now.. hehe Good Luck.. I made a big deal of his twin mattress, I put it on the floor right where his toddler firetruck bed was, got him special Thomas sheets and he was in heaven big smiles about his own special bed

Hi A.,

I had the same problem with my 2 yr old son. Unfortunately, I made a mistake of having him sleep in my bed. After a while I stayed in the room with him til he fell asleep. If he woke up and came in my bedroom, I brought him back to his bed. Eventually, he got use to his bed.
Hope this works.

Listen, you are the parent and he is the child. After you take his developmental stage into consideration, appropriately and firmly make him sleep in his bed. Teach him, that's your job. When he gets out, put him back in. When he gets out again, put him back in again. Stay with him in there for a few nights. Read him a story, cuddle, sings songs, lay quietly. It is work to teach a child but that is what needs to be done.

I'm confused, will he sleep on the floor in his own room? If so, maybe he doesn't like his bed. I didn't like beds when I was little. I slept on a mattress on the floor, any height at all scared me. I remember my 2 (girl) cousins making a nest in between their beds for their brother because he didn't like to sleep by himslef at that age. I think it's ok to think a bit outside the box. Maybe he would enjoy sleeping in a sleeping bag in a makeshift fort. Race car beds might be a dream come true for some little boys but it maight scare the heck out of others.
