Seeking Play Groups with Other Full Time Working Moms

I am seeking playgroups, others who have kids at a similar age to my own almost 9 month old, etc. I live in Ravenswood and prefer folks who live closeby. I am realizing that my son does not have much exposure to other children and now that it is nicer I would like to try and be more organized about this some on the weekends or even during the week late afternoons or early evenings. He is in childcare during the week with a friend who is a grandma, but he is the only child. I would like to meet some moms to engage in social activities that do not cost money.

What can I do next?

Hi V.,
We live in the area however I have a pre-schooler. I found a wonderful playgroup here through the Neighborhood Parent Network or NPN. There website is npnparents.org
It's worth the membership fee of $40, and has been a great resource including discussion on so many topics, and meeting others.

Don't worry about him not being so much with children at his age. They don't yet play at that age. they just coexist. but if you are interested in group activities, then wiggle worms at lincoln square is fun.

I second that comment about meetup.com. It's free. I found a great group in my neighborhood. You could find something for you care provider to attend as well as you!
BTW- I live in lincoln square and have a 10 month old. Let me know if you would like to get together.

Hi V.,

I'm in north Rogers Park, and my daughter is 18 months. Still, I am always looking to meet other moms, as I don't have many friends with kids, and not any nearby.

Best,
M.

I live in Buena Park, so fairly close to you, but my son is 14 months. email me if you'd like to get together, and I'll see if I know anyone with kids around 9 months. I found a group of other moms in my building who have kids about my son's age, which was great for me because he also is an only child - I mostly ran across them going in or out of the building, or while out walking the dogs. If you live in a high-rise building, there might be other kids in the building you haven't run into yet. We started a parent's group for our building and have had good turnout through that as well. THe park might also be a good place to find neighborhood moms with kids about your age. It's harder as a working single mom, but there are a lot of us out there, and I"m sure now that the weather's better, you'll run into more of us. I"m a working single mom in law school, so I know how busy you are. good luck on your dissertation.
