Seeking Pediatrician & Pediatric Ob/gyn in Brownstown/Trenton/Woodhaven Area

Hi Ladies,

My 11-year-old daughter started her period 4 months ago and it was atraumatic and light, as expected. Last month, she called me to the bathroom and was crying, concerned about the amount of "blood" she was losing, and I must admit, it was a LOT! We have been seeing Dr. Sy for 10 years at Henry Ford Health Care Center at Telegraph and West, but Dr. Sy made a serious mistake with my daughter's gyn care and created more of a problem than originally was presented. She was also less than gentle with my daughter's exam (external, thank God) as I watched in horror. My daughter is now terrified of any exam involving removing her panties. We were referred to a CHM doctor's clinic in Southfield, but I'm hoping one of you knows someone a little closer, and preferably female.

What can I do next?

Hi L.! Well I can't imagine the discomfort that your daughter must have felt. The Dr. should have been SUPER gentle and understanding to her.
I'm not sure if she's a pediatric GYN, but her name is Dr. Carrie Kluge. She shares an office with Dr. Singh on West rd. in Trenton. She is absolutely fantastic and I really truely would refer her to anyone. She's great!
Here's her office number - ###-###-####.

My pediatrician is Dr. Zara in Riverview - he's on King Rd. He's also a fantastic dr. He really takes the time to talk to you as a parent and is great with the kids. I have a 7 month old baby girl and he's great with her. I went through 4-5 other dr's before I found Dr. Zara!

Hope this helps and you find a great Dr. for your daughter.
J.

I don't know of a pediatric ob/gyn but I do know of a good place that has a great ob/gyn I took my daughter there last year and the female dr was was very kind and gentle with my daughter and also with my self as being a very nervous parent, the problem is I can't remember her name right now but I know she is in with the new Beaumont place at the corner of Allen and King rd, She is in the same office as Dr Frank Mitek, I am sure if you call there they can help you. Godd Luck.

You might want to try Dr. Hana Najar, M.D. in Dearborn, Mi. on Monroe street. She has always been very gentle.

I am so sorry to hear about that. Some doctors don't seem to remember that when something goes wrong, people tend to get a little nervous and scared.

I just recently found a wonderful OB/GYN but I'm not sure if she handles young ladies. She is located on Gibraltar Road in Flat Rock, just off of I-75. Her name is Dr. Stephanie Crain. I have recently started experiencing some problems myself. Dr. Crain explores all the options with you after determining what the problem is. She is not a doctor to just tell what you're going to do and rush you out the door. She will talk to you and answer all of your questions and concerns no matter how long it takes. I have waited in her office for over an hour because she was helping other patients. I called her office about a week ago to ask a few questions before I committed to a procedure she suggested and she came right on the line to talk to me and ease my mind and quell my concerns. The phone number for her office is ###-###-####. I hope she can help you and if not, suggest someone who can. Good luck!

My goodness! I feel for your daughter! :(

My daughters pediatrician was also MY pediatrician when I was growing up. I know for a fact she does pelvic exams because she did mine when I got my period at 10 until I was 18 and moved on to a GYN. VERY gentle and great bedside manner in all situations. She talks to the child, not just the parent. She takes her time with each patient answering your questions so you dont feel rushed in and out of there. Her name is Dr Sarojini Desai out of McFord Pediatric in Dearborn on Ford Road. Phone number is ###-###-####. I really cannot say enough good things about her and her staff!

Good luck in your search and just keep reassuring your daughter that all drs are not like that.

I'm so sorry to hear your daughter's experience was so traumatic. I too had a bad experience with a ob/gyn when I was young. Fortunately things did get better especially when a friend referred me to a new group of doctors. I know this is not close to Brownstown, but it is a straight shot up I-275 so maybe it wouldn't to bad. I would recommend to anyone a group called Metro Partners in Women's Health. It is a group of mostly women doctors with only one male partner. They also have midwives and nurse practioners. They are overall a very kind caring group. I would see if you could get an appointment with Helene LaCoste - she's by far the best, but they are all good. Address is 37595 Seven Mile Road, Suite 340, Livonia, MI phone ###-###-####.

I went there first when I was pregnant. I realy didn't want a male doctor for this. Go figure when I delivered I got the male doctor and he was excellent too.

Good luck. And tell your daughter it will get better.

well i guess your request would require a little more knowledge about what your insurance covers, but i absolutely love dr. poston's office in woodhaven which is located at west and hall. dr. poston is male but they have other staff members, including tanya who is a nurse practioner, that i would trust to take care of my daughter's feminine issues. their office number is ###-###-####. i also love my ob/gyn doctor's office...dr. alaiwat (although he is male) who has moved his office on northline in southgate, the last time i went there i had a female doctor who i felt was outstanding, very gentle and thorough in her questioning. just remember that if you find a good practioner's office, many have female staff and it is your right to request a female examiner. good luck!

This is our Pediatritian. I love her she is very sweet. I would also question if your 11 year old even needs to have a pelvic exam.
